NCIS<\/em><\/a> stars Katrina Law<\/strong> and Brian Dietzen<\/strong> are teasing rough waters ahead for their characters\u2019 romance ahead of the season 21 finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re gonna see what happens with [Jimmy and Jess\u2019] relationship as it hits some speed bumps,\u201d Dietzen, 46, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> during the CBS Fall Schedule Celebration on Thursday, May 2. \u201cAnd we see things bubble to the surface maybe that that have been held down a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jessica Knight (Law) and medical examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Dietzen) first sparked an interoffice romance during season 20. When season 21 premiered in February, the pair hit a setback when Jessica\u2019s dad came to visit<\/a> and pointed out that a relationship wasn\u2019t in her initial plan to become a boss at NCIS.<\/p>\n

While Jessica assured Jimmy at the time that she was happy working in her current position, it looks like the duo aren\u2019t in the clear just yet.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe NCIS family just keeps growing \u2014 with six existing or former shows and two more on the way as of 2024. While many fans might think the naval intelligence-based franchise began with NCIS, that\u2019s not the case. The flagship NCIS show was actually JAG, which debuted on NBC in 1995. The series followed military [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The season 21 finale, which airs on Monday, May 6, will seemingly address their issues, with Law noting that there are \u201ca lot of wounded souls<\/a>\u201d on the CBS procedural that are still \u201chealing from something\u201d in their past.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what you\u2019re gonna see from Jess is that maybe some of the things that she thought she suppressed maybe some of the things that she is worried about Jimmy Palmer going through she\u2019s starting to realize maybe I\u2019m still going through it myself,\u201d she told Us. \u201cAnd you\u2019re gonna see how that\u2019s gonna relate to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Law added that she would love to see her character \u201cgrow\u201d when season 22 comes around, hoping that moving past her trauma will help her find her \u201cown path.\u201d (The show was renewed<\/a> for season 22 in April.)<\/p>\n

Dietzen, meanwhile, teased that viewers can expect more than just romantic drama.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got danger. Like, real mortal danger and also emotional danger that our characters are being put through,\u201d he told Us.<\/em> \u201cNo character is safe in the NCIS<\/em> world<\/a>. We could lose a character or two within the episode and when that happens? It throws everything into flux, the relationships and everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite putting viewers through a series of ups and downs, Dietzen promised that Monday\u2019s finale will have a \u201cbeautiful\u201d story. The scene work that I\u2019ve seen from some of my castmates, specifically Katrina, is incredible,\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the best finales we\u2019ve had in years. Just years and years.\u201d<\/p>\n

While their characters may be at odds on screen, Law and Dietzen couldn\u2019t be more in sync as actors. Law called Dietzen one of her \u201cfavorite\u201d people to work with, crediting his ability to be \u201cso present\u201d on screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that anytime I lob the ball at him he\u2019s gonna hit right back. So it\u2019s a joy to work with him,\u201d she said, joking that the actor is also \u201ca lot smarter\u201d than her and often teaches her lessons, like \u201cnot to eat the yellow snow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh my God, I\u2019ve been doing wrong my entire life,\u2019\u201d she quipped.<\/p>\n

Dietzen, for his part, gushed over how the writers have crafted a relationship with Jess and Jimmy that is about \u201ctwo people who actually talk about what they\u2019re feeling\u201d instead of just watching them \u201cmake eyes at each other from across the room for eight years until one gets on a plane and they kiss.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tNCIS has been on the air since 2003 \u2013 and the fan favorite drama is still going strong. The CBS series follows a group of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as they investigate various different crimes. NCIS season 1 began with lead actors Mark Harmon, Sasha Alexander, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dietzen admitted that classic tropes can \u201creally work\u201d in TV, it\u2019s just not something NCIS is interested in doing when it comes to Jess and Jimmy\u2019s romance.<\/p>\n
