Last month, Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/strong>\u2019s GOP colleagues responded to her calls to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson<\/strong> by saying things<\/a> like, \u201cDon\u2019t bother us,\u201d and stop \u201cairing your grievances,\u201d and \u201cNobody cares what Marjorie Taylor Greene says or thinks.\u201d Unfortunately for Greene (or maybe unfortunately for her coworkers), she did not appear to get the message, and rather than moving on, decided on Wednesday to dig in.<\/p>\n Speaking to reporters in Washington, the far-right congresswoman announced<\/a> that she will officially raise a \u201cmotion to vacate\u201d Johnson next week, i.e. try to boot him from his leadership position. Claiming Johnson \u201cis not capable\u201d of doing his job, Greene said she was giving Republicans the weekend to \u201cprepare,\u201d adding, \u201cI care about my conference.\u201d It also seems likely she\u2018s hoping people will change their minds over the next several days, because currently she appears to have little support\u2014on either side of the aisle. As The Washington Post<\/em> reports<\/a>, representatives Thomas Massie<\/strong> and Paul Gosar<\/strong> are the only Republicans who\u2019ve publicly backed Greene\u2019s effort to remove Johnson, while Democrats, who helped oust Kevin McCarthy<\/strong> last year, have said they won\u2019t do the same this time around.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries<\/strong> said Democrats would vote to table Greene\u2019s motion, which would effectively kill it. Not because they think Johnson is great\u2014as a reminder, he\u2019s antiabortion<\/a>, anti-gay-marriage<\/a>, and in favor of overturning the 2020 election<\/a>\u2014but because they want Congress to be able to operate. (And maybe also because they\u2019re sick of Greene\u2019s shit.) Representative Becca Balint<\/strong> told Axios<\/a> Wednesday that Johnson\u2019s \u201cpositions and actions on LGBTQ rights and reproductive rights are abhorrent,\u201d but added, \u201cMy constituents and I want a functioning Congress. I will vote to end the chaos and to strip MTG of her power and influence.\u201d Referring to the chances of Greene\u2019s efforts being successful, a senior House Democrat told the outlet: \u201cShe is about to realize her inevitable irrelevance.\u201d<\/p>\n Greene has claimed<\/a> her attempt to boot Johnson is, in part, about defending Donald Trump,<\/strong> saying the House leader made a grave error when he funded the Justice Department because said DOJ, according to Greene, wants to imprison Trump \u201cfor life.\u201d Yet Trump has endorsed Johnson<\/a> publicly.
