Steve Martin<\/strong><\/a> channeled his beloved Father of the Bride<\/em> role in a new photo with Only Murders in the Building<\/em> <\/a>costar Selena Gomez<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cGuess what just happened!\u201d the iconic actor, 77, wrote via Twitter<\/a> on Tuesday, March 21, alongside the nostalgic image with the \u201cSame Old Love\u201d singer, 30. Martin looked dapper in a tux while Gomez wore a formal wedding gown that featured a sweetheart neckline and a ballroom skirt with lace appliqu\u00e9s. The Disney Channel<\/a> alum, who also sported a bright red lip, wore her dark locks in an updo, with two pieces framing her face. A long veil cascaded down her back.<\/p>\n Fans immediately began chiming in with Father of the Bride<\/em> x OMITB<\/em> crossover puns.<\/p>\n \u201cThe neighbor of the bride,\u201d wrote<\/a> one Twitter user. \u201cOnly Fathers of the Bride in the Building,\u201d shared another<\/a>. \u201cOnly Marriages in the Building?\u201d asked a third follower. Others demanded that Martin Short<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who stars alongside Martin and Gomez on the Hulu series and portrayed wedding planner Franck in the Father of the Bride <\/em>films \u2014 be present for the picture.<\/p>\n \u201cWhere is Franck Eggelhoffer?\u201d questioned<\/a> a social media user. \u201cHe\u2019s making the cawk. \ud83d\ude06 ,\u201d joked<\/a> a fan, referencing Franck\u2019s pronunciation of \u201ccake.\u201d<\/p>\n Fortunately for Franck fans, Martin also shared<\/a> a picture of Short, 72, posing with Gomez in the wedding dress. \u201cTurns out this happened, too,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n The trio were photographed filming a scene for OMITB<\/em> in photos published on Tuesday. The Spring Breakers<\/em> actress, in character, donned the wedding gown as she ran to hail a cab on the New York City set alongside her costars.<\/p>\n Martin famously played nervous dad George Banks in the 1991 film, reprising his role for Father of the Bride Part II<\/em> four years later. Along with Short, 72, the Grammy winner starred alongside Diane Keaton<\/strong><\/a> (who portrayed his wife, Nina), Kimberly Williams-Paisley<\/strong><\/a> (as the titular bride, Annie) and a young Kieran Culkin<\/strong><\/a> (who portrayed George and Nina\u2019s son, son Matty). George Newbern<\/strong> also starred as Annie\u2019s husband, Bryan Mackenzie.<\/p>\n The original cast reunited in September 2020 for a Zoom reading of Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish)<\/em>, in which Matty and his fiancee, Rachel (Alexandra Shipp<\/strong>) get married over the video platform. Also in the video short were Florence Pugh<\/em> (who played Megan, George and Nina\u2019s youngest child), Ben Platt<\/strong><\/a> (Annie and Ben\u2019s son, Georgie) and Robert De Niro<\/strong><\/a> (as the other Father of the Bride \u2014 Rachel\u2019s dad).<\/p>\n Short, Martin and Culkin, 40, once again stepped back into character on a December 2022 episode of Saturday Night Live<\/em> for the Father of the Bride Part 8<\/em> sketch. The scene also featured Gomez as Annie\u2019s wedding performer.<\/p>\n As for what Martin and Gomez\u2019s costumes and wedding photo mean for OMITB<\/em> season 3, that is yet to be revealed. While Gomez\u2019s character, Mabel, was involved with Alice (Cara Delevingne<\/strong><\/a>) during season 2, it is unlikely that the two will actually be tying the knot in season 3 \u2014 or even continuing their relationship at all after the time jump.<\/p>\n \u201cAlice\u2019s [story line] [resolved itself] in a rather sweet way, with the beginning of a reparation in that friendship [with Mabel],\u201d cocreator John Hoffman<\/strong> told TVLine in 2022. \u201cI like the chumminess that\u2019s there. But I don\u2019t think we\u2019re aiming toward any more of a love relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n Could Mabel and Charles (Martin) be acting in Oliver\u2019s (Short) play? The season 3 teaser, which dropped earlier this month, featured Meryl Streep<\/strong><\/a> (Loretta) doing a table read for the play-within-the-show as the rest of the cast \u2014 including Paul Rudd<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 looked on.<\/p>\n \u201cOh my God, it\u2019s me!\u201d she said in character, laughing in surprise. \u201cOh, I\u2019m so sorry. I\u2019m sorry. It\u2019s me. Isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p>\n Jesse Williams<\/strong><\/a> and Ashley Park<\/strong><\/a> will also star on the upcoming season.
