Ed Sheeran<\/strong><\/a> recalled having a hard time early in his career when he noticed he didn\u2019t look like every other male artist.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m self-conscious anyway, but you get into an industry where you\u2019re getting compared to every other pop star. I was in the One Direction<\/a> wave, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, why don\u2019t I have a six-pack?\u2019\u201d the 32-year-old crooner told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in an article published on Tuesday, March 21. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Oh, because you love kebabs and drink beer.\u2019 Then you do songs with Justin Bieber<\/strong><\/a> and Shawn Mendes<\/strong><\/a>. All these people have fantastic figures. And I was always like, \u2018Well, why am I so \u2026 fat?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cBad Habits\u201d singer revealed that he developed an eating disorder<\/a> amid the stress and pressure to fit in.<\/p>\n \u201cI found myself doing what Elton [John]<\/strong><\/a> talks about in his book \u2014 gorging, and then it would come up again,\u201d Sheeran explained, referring to John\u2019s autobiography, Me<\/em><\/a>, in which he wrote about his battle with bulimia.<\/p>\n The \u201cShape of You\u201d crooner told the outlet that speaking out about his eating disorder is somewhat taboo among men \u2014 and in the U.K.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s certain things that, as a man talking about them, I feel mad uncomfortable,\u201d Sheeran continued. \u201cI know people are going to see it a type of way, but it\u2019s good to be honest about them. Because so many people do the same thing and hide it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammy winner<\/a> confessed: \u201cI have a real eating problem [and] I\u2019m a real binge eater. I\u2019m a binge-everything.\u201d<\/p>\n The England native \u2014 who shares two daughters, Lyra<\/a>, 2, and Jupiter<\/a>, 8 months, with wife Cherry Seaborn<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 noted that he\u2019s chosen to turn his binge tendencies into a positive. \u201cI\u2019m now more of a binge exerciser, and a binge dad,\u201d he concluded. \u201cAnd work, obviously.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheeran previously revealed in December 2019 that he lost 50 pounds<\/a> after quitting smoking three years prior. The life change came after years of touring and unhealthy dieting on the road.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, it was down to, like, bad diet, drinking and then not seeing sunlight at all [while] I was touring. Oh, and I wasn\u2019t exercising,\u201d the \u201cPerfect Duet\u201d singer recalled in July 2020 of his X<\/em> tour<\/a> during the Hay House Chasing the Present Summit. \u201cI would stay up and drink all night.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time, he called 2015 the \u201clowest that I\u2019ve been,\u201d admitting that what had started as \u201cfun and games\u201d and \u201crock \u2019n\u2019 roll\u201d ended up being \u201cjust sad.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cPhotograph\u201d crooner revealed that he \u201cballooned in weight\u201d during that time due to his \u201cvery, very addictive personality.\u201d Some of those vices included \u201csugar, sweet stuff, junk food, cocaine, alcohol.\u201d<\/p>\n While speaking with Rolling Stone<\/em> in March, Sheeran gave an update on his sobriety journey<\/a> \u2014 which began two months before his eldest child was born \u2014 and how he manages his drinking now.<\/p>\n \u201cCherry said, \u2018If my waters break, do you really want someone else to drive me to the hospital?\u2019 Because I was just drinking a lot. And that\u2019s when it clicked,\u201d the \u201cThinking Out Loud\u201d singer<\/a> told the magazine. \u201cI was like, \u2018No, actually, I really don\u2019t.\u2019 And I don\u2019t ever want to be pissed holding my kid. \u2026 It\u2019s just a realization of, \u2018I\u2019m getting into my thirties. Grow up! You\u2019ve partied, you\u2019ve had this experience.
