Jon Bon Jovi<\/a><\/strong> met the love of his life Dorothea Hurley<\/strong> when she let him cheat off of her in their history class.<\/p>\n

The high-school sweethearts appeared on The Howard Stern Show<\/em> in May 2023 and Dorothea said that even back then, Jon \u201cwas a rock star.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember somebody told me a story and then I said, \u2018Well, my boyfriend\u2019s gonna be a rockstar,\u2019 and they were like, \u2018Good luck with that,\u2019\u201d Dorothea shared<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n

After nearly 10 years of dating, the two tied the knot in a spur-of-the-moment ceremony in Las Vegas in 1989. The band Bon Jovi had been on their New Jersey Syndicate<\/em> tour when Jon suggested the two run off to Las Vegas. Since then, the couple has celebrated more than 30 years together and share four children: Stephanie (born 1993), Jesse (born 1995), Jake (born 2002) and Romeo (born 2004).<\/p>\n

Jon opened up about his nerves of becoming a parent to The Big Issue<\/em> in 2020.<\/p>\n

The country music star met Akins when they were in grade school in Georgia. By sixth grade, the twosome were best friends. Fast forward to high school and things turned romantic [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI remember coming home with Stephanie, our first, and thinking I have a daughter? I never even had a sister,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cEveryone comes to the hospital to visit and they bring flowers and balloons, and they drop your bag off and the mommies lay down in the bed with the baby, and then you\u2019re like, oh my God. Now what?\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his nerves, the rockstar said that his role as a father is one he would never change. Out of everything in his life, he would most like to relive the birth of his children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was such a miracle,\u201d Jon recalled to The Big Issue<\/em> in 2020. \u201cThe birth of a human that you\u2019ve helped create \u2014 that\u2019s probably the most unbelievable thing that I could ever want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jon and Dorothea met while they were students at Sayreville War Memorial High School.<\/p>\n

1985<\/h3>\n

The two briefly split<\/a> in 1985. During their break, Jon dated Diane Lane<\/strong> for 5 months.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was 20 and I think every girl should have such a wonderful experience,\u201d Lane said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen<\/em><\/a> in 2017.<\/p>\n

Jon and Dorothea reconciled, and while the band Bon Jovi was on their New Jersey Syndicate tour, the pair ran off to Vegas and tied the knot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had the No. 1 album, the No. 1 single, and we were playing three nights at the Forum in L.A.,\u201d Jon told Men\u2019s Health<\/em><\/a> in 2010. \u201cI turned to Dorothea and said, \u2018I got an idea. Why don\u2019t we go right now?\u2019 She said, \u2018You\u2019re out of your mind.\u2019 I said, \u2018Come on. What\u2019s better than this, right now, this moment?\u2019 And so we ran off to Las Vegas. Didn\u2019t tell a soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jon and Dorothea welcomed their first child, Stephanie Rose, in May in Red Bank, New Jersey.<\/p>\n

The couple welcomed their second child, Jesse James Louis, to the family in February.<\/p>\n

2002<\/h3>\n

Jon almost missed the birth of his third child, Jacob \u201cJake\u201d Hurley. The day before his son\u2019s birth, Jon was playing a show in New Orleans. Luckily, he was able to make it back to New Jersey just in time.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Las Vegas has been a prime destination for the hottest celebrity couples to get hitched without all the pomp and circumstance of a typical Hollywood wedding. 2004<\/h3>\n

The twosome welcomed their fourth child, Romeo in April 2004. Jon shared the struggles of touring<\/a> while being a parent on The Ellen Show<\/em> in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s getting harder and harder as we tour, and you get more guilty with every tour,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n

Jon and Dorothea founded the nonprofit organization, JBJ Soul Foundation. The organization\u2019s mission is \u201cto break the cycle of hunger, poverty and homelessness\u201d and has built over 1,000 affordable housing units for thousands of people across the U.S.<\/p>\n

Since its founding, the Soul Foundation also opened three JBJ Soul Kitchens in New Jersey. Dorothea came up with the idea for the pay-if-you-can restaurants, allowing those who can afford a meal to pay for those who can\u2019t.<\/p>\n

2007<\/h3>\n

Jon opened up to Best Life<\/em> in 2007 about his and Dorothea\u2019s long-lasting marriage, crediting her for her support and understanding.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a saint, and I have not been a saint. And, christ, I missed tons of birthdays and school plays. But it\u2019s not like Dorothea came in halfway through the movie and didn\u2019t know who she got,\u201d Jon said at the time. \u201cShe\u2019s been in it the whole game. She understands what it means.\u201d<\/p>\n

2013<\/h3>\n

Jon and Dorothea \u2014 along with their daughter Stephanie and their two youngest sons, Jake and Romeo \u2014 attended the Winter Whites Gala at Kensington Palace. During the event, the rock star joined Prince William<\/strong> and Taylor Swift<\/strong> on stage to sing a rendition of his hit song \u201cLivin\u2019 on a Prayer.\u201d<\/p>\n

2016<\/h3>\n

Following the sudden departure<\/a> of Richie Sambora<\/strong> from the band after three decades of playing together and a conflict between the band and their record company, Jon had almost had enough. The lead singer credited his wife for helping him through some of the worst years of his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was going through a difficult period and it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders,\u201d Jon opened up to The Mirror<\/em> in 2016. \u201cWithout her, I am not sure how I would have coped.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of these things added up and a snowflake became an avalanche,\u201d he went on to say. \u201cI am proud to say I have been with one band my whole life, one record label my whole life and one wife my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n

After 35 years as a group, Bon Jovi were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 13, 2018, and the singer\u2019s entire family showed up to support him.<\/p>\n

Weeks later, the Bongiovi family celebrated again as Jon and his son Jesse founded their own ros\u00e9 brand called Hampton Water.<\/p>\n

Jon posted a black-and-white photo from his and Dorothea\u2019s Las Vegas nuptials via Instagram in April 2021 in honor of their 32nd wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n
