Charlie Puth<\/strong><\/a> has shared his reaction after getting the namecheck of a lifetime in the title track to Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s new album, The Tortured Poets Department<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n On Sunday, April 28, Charlie, 32, reposted Taylor\u2019s Instagram<\/a> about the success of TTPD<\/em> on his Story. Her post featured behind-the-scenes shots from the studio and the message, \u201cMy mind is blown. I\u2019m completely floored by the love you\u2019ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed. I was already so fired up to get back to tour but you doing THIS? May 9th can\u2019t come soon enough.\u201d<\/p>\n Charlie\u2019s repost came after Taylor, 34, sang the lyrics, \u201cYou smok\u0435d, then ate seven bars of chocolate \/ We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,\u201d referring to the \u201cHow Long\u201d singer in \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department\u201d song. The song was cowritten by Taylor and her longtime collaborator<\/a> Jack Antonoff<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Rumson, New Jersey, native got his big break when he was featured on the anthem \u201cSee You Again\u201d with rapper Wiz Khalifa<\/strong>. It appeared on the Furious 7<\/em> soundtrack in 2015 and was a tribute to the late Fast & Furious<\/em> star Paul Walker. He died in a fiery car crash in November 2013.<\/p>\n The song rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard<\/em> Hot 100 chart, where it spent 12 weeks in the top spot.<\/p>\n Shortly afterward, Charlie proved he could make it on his own with his 2016 debut album, Nine Track Mind<\/em>. It featured the hit singles \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk Anymore,\u201d \u201cOne Call Away\u201d and the collaboration \u201cMarvin Gaye\u201d with Meghan Trainor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cMy friend was talking to me about his long-distance relationship, and how it breaks his heart that he can\u2019t see his girlfriend every day,\u201d Charlie told MTV<\/a> in 2016 about writing \u201cOne Call Away.\u201d \u201cSo, I wanted to make an anthem for everyone in a long-distance relationship or just someone they haven\u2019t seen in a while is just one call away.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cHow Long\u201d singer had a moderate hit with 2022\u2019s \u201cLight Switch,\u201d off his last album, Charlie<\/em>. He hasn\u2019t released any music since then with the exception of the March 2023 single, \u201cThat\u2019s Not How This Works,\u201d with country-pop duo Dan + Shay.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department\u201d also namechecked two famous poets, Dylan Thomas and Patti Smith<\/strong>, as Taylor sang in the chorus, \u201cI laughed in your face and said, \u2018You\u2019re not Dylan Thomas, I\u2019m not Patti Smith\u201d adding, \u201cThis ain\u2019t the Chelsea Hotel, we\u2019re modern idiots.\u201d<\/p>\n Dylan was a famed Welsh writer who died in November 1953 at just 39 years old after moving to New York City. Patti is an American singer, songwriter and poet who helped influence the punk rock movement in the 1970\u2019s.<\/p>\n \u201cTTPD\u201d is believed to be about Taylor and her romance<\/a> with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy<\/strong>. She hinted at his song \u201cChocolate\u201d in the lyric with Charlie\u2019s name, while also singing, \u201cI scratch your head, you fall asleep like a tattooed golden retriever.\u201d Matty, 35, is the only one of Taylor\u2019s most recent romantic interests to have tattoos.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
