As Kate Hudson<\/strong><\/a> gears up to launch her music career, she remembers being told she was \u201ctoo old\u201d to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was someone who said to me \u2014 and it kind of jarred me a little \u2014 it was when I was in my early 30s, and they basically said, \u2018It\u2019s done, it\u2019s passed. You can\u2019t, you\u2019re too old.\u2019 And you know, for me, it wasn\u2019t just about being a performer, it was about wanting to write music,\u201d Hudson, now 45, said in an interview with CBS\u2019 Sunday Morning<\/em><\/a>, which aired on Sunday, April 28.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it kind of, like, kind of resonated there for a bit,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then I was like, \u2018Eh, f\u2013k you.\u2019 No, no one tells me what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hudson is set to release her debut album, Glorious<\/em>, on May 17. When asked how long she had been writing songs for, the Almost Famous star answered, \u201cReally poorly, my whole life. I guess I wasn\u2019t ready for it until now.\u201d<\/p>\n

But what makes her ready to start pursuing music in earnest now? \u201cI just don\u2019t care anymore about what people think, probably,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt was never right, whether it was my own stuff or feeling afraid to mess up my movie career \u2014 just never felt right. Until now. I\u2019m just doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hudson is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn<\/strong><\/a> and Bill Hudson<\/strong> of the 1970s band The Hudson Brothers. In that sense, one could say that music and songwriting run in Kate\u2019s blood. \u201cThose Hudson Brothers are crazy-talented musicians and wonderful songwriters. My dad\u2019s a great songwriter,\u201d she said but noted that she and her father don\u2019t have much of a relationship.<\/p>\n
