The \u2018Basic Instinct\u2019 actress, 66, was rushed to the hospital in 2001 after suffering a brain haemorrhage that forced her to step away from her career for two years \u2013 and which she says led to her being frozen out of the movie business for two decades.<\/p>\n
She has now told the \u2018Turkish Tea Talk with Alex Salmond\u2019 show about also fighting mental issues: \u201cWe\u2019re all trying to confront our demons, and we\u2019re all acting out \u2013 me, too, and trying to figure out how to keep getting back up, keep helping people up even if we put them down, and make sure we\u2019re all back up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sharon, who works with the World Health Organisation, added one-in-10 people \u201con a global level\u201d are in the grip of a \u201cmental crisis\u201d.<\/p>\n
She declared people should be trying to fix themselves instead of relying on political figures for policies that could help them \u2013 saying: \u201cTo try to say, \u2018It has to be our leaders\u2019, well, which leader do you think that\u2019s going to be? It must start with the individual.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou must stand strong, and when you blow it? OK, so what? That was two steps ago.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou have to get back up, get yourself together and help whoever you think you bumped around, and keep moving forward \u2013 and instant forgiveness.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cInstant forgiveness for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSharon then became emotional when discussing how she used her fame to support marginalised groups, saying about her appearance at an event promoting world peace: \u201cSuddenly, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m in the right goddamn room. These are my people.\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI would stand in the street with these people. I would risk my lives for these people. These people get me, I get them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSharon also said she now spends about 17 hours a day painting and will only return to acting for a role that\u2019s \u201creally powerful and meaningful\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
