AI, in particular, has shaken the company to its core: it\u2019s made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/3\/5\/24091099\/google-search-high-quality-results-spam-ai-content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">big search changes<\/a>, realigned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/3\/19\/24105705\/google-liz-reid-search-ai-sge-gemini\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Search<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/4\/18\/24133881\/google-android-pixel-teams-reorg-rick-osterloh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Android, and hardware teams<\/a> around AI, and launched its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/12\/6\/23990466\/google-gemini-llm-ai-model\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gemini AI model<\/a> to capitalize on the opportunity. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Google execs cut projects and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/1\/17\/24042417\/google-layoffs-2024-internal-employee-memo-sundar-pichai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laid off employees<\/a> to refocus, and yesterday, it announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/4\/25\/24140632\/hey-google-stock-now-pays-a-dividend-too\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its first-ever dividend<\/a> and a $70 billion share buyback alongside its Q1 2024 earnings. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Investors, at least, are eating it up: Google parent company Alphabet has finally officially hit and maintained a $2 trillion market cap for a whole day of trading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/11\/8\/22770569\/alphabet-google-market-cap-hits-2-trillion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after briefly touching $2 trillion<\/a> in November 2021. Google is the fourth most valuable public company in the world, behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/2\/23\/24080975\/nvidia-ai-chips-h100-h200-market-capitalization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> ($2.2 trillion), Apple ($2.6 trillion), and Microsoft ($3.0 trillion).
