Ellen DeGeneres<\/strong><\/a> is still reeling from the end of her talk show \u2014 which was shrouded in scandal after toxic workplace allegations \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean she can\u2019t laugh at herself.<\/p>\n

When DeGeneres, 66, kicked off her Ellen\u2019s Last Stand \u2026 Up Tour<\/em> on Wednesday, April 24, in West Hollywood, she wasn\u2019t afraid to poke fun at her own career downfall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat else can I tell you?\u201d she told the sold-out crowd during the show, according to Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, before declaring, \u201cOh yeah, I got kicked out of show business.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGeneres trolled herself, adding, \u201cThere\u2019s no mean people in show business.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEllen DeGeneres\u00a0has become a legend in her own right since she hit the spotlight in the late 1970s \u2014 though there have been some bumps along the way. The talk show host started out as a stand-up comedian in her native Louisiana after leaving the University of New Orleans just one semester into her studies [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The comedian teased that her iconic parting line on The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/em>, \u201cBe kind to one another,\u201d couldn\u2019t save her from the controversy that engulfed the show in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u2018be kind\u2019 girl wasn\u2019t kind,\u201d she continued. \u201cI became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, \u2018Go f\u2013k yourself,\u2019 people would\u2019ve been pleasantly surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGeneres made headlines in 2020 when she was accused of producing a \u201ctoxic work environment<\/a>\u201d during her 19-season run. WarnerMedia launched an investigation that July into the allegations and DeGeneres sent a letter of apology to her staff.<\/p>\n

Although she continued to film throughout 2020, DeGeneres announced in 2021 that season 19 would be the last. Her final episode<\/a> aired in May 2022.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAdding their two cents. Scooter Braun, Brad Garrett, James Woods and more celebrities weighed in on Ellen DeGeneres amid allegations that her talk show fostered a toxic work environment. BuzzFeed News reported in July that 10 former staffers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show alleged they faced racism, fear and intimidation behind the scenes of the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The fallout over how the show concluded and the stain on her reputation<\/a> is something DeGeneres hasn\u2019t fully moved on from. In fact, she admitted on Wednesday that as she\u2019s looked back she\u2019s realized she was a boss who \u201cdidn\u2019t know how to be a boss\u201d despite being the face of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t go to business school. I went to Charlie\u2019s Chuckle Hutt,\u201d DeGeneres told the audience, referring to her comedy background. \u201cThe show was called Ellen<\/em> and everybody was wearing T-shirts that said \u2018Ellen\u2019 and there were buildings on the Warner Brothers lot that said \u2018Ellen,\u2019 but I don\u2019t know that that meant I should be in charge.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGeneres also joked that the talk show drama wasn\u2019t the first time Hollywood pushed her out. In the 1990s, she made waves by announcing on her sitcom, Ellen<\/em>, that she was gay<\/a>. The revelation didn\u2019t sit well with the network.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor those of you keeping score, this is the second time I\u2019ve been kicked out of show business,\u201d she said, sarcastically adding, \u201cEventually they\u2019re going to kick me out for a third time because I\u2019m mean, old, and gay.\u201d<\/p>\n

While DeGeneres had the audience in stitches according to Rolling Stone<\/em>, much of her set was about the heartbreak of losing The Ellen DeGeneres Show<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m giving stuff away \u2026 and I danced, then I was mean and they didn\u2019t like me again,\u201d she said of her downfall. \u201cIt\u2019s been such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem. There\u2019s such extremes in this business, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people somehow are louder.\u201d<\/p>\n
