Peter Krause<\/strong><\/a>, welcome to the hallowed halls of the Tortured Poets Department.<\/p>\n

Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>, 34, dropped her 11th studio album<\/a> on Friday, April 19, with 31 songs including one succinctly titled \u201cPeter.\u201d Krause, 58, jokingly reacted to the track in an online video<\/a> circulating on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe she wrote this about me,\u201d the 9-1-1 <\/i>actor quipped while reading the song\u2019s lyrics aloud. \u201cWell, you know, it\u2019s all this stuff about being a scene-stealer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s song \u201cPeter\u201d was cowritten with Aaron Dessner<\/strong><\/a> and appears on the second half of her TTPD <\/i>double album.<\/p>\n

Swift, 34, dropped TTPD on Friday, April 19, dropping the first 16 songs at midnight EST. Two hours later, she announced and released The Tortured [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cForgive me, Peter \/ My lost fearless leader \/ In closets like cedar \/ Preserved from when we were just kids,\u201d Swift sings. \u201cIs it somethin\u2019 I did? \/ The goddess of timing \/ Once found us beguiling \/ She said she was trying. Peter, was she lying? \/ My ribs get the feeling she did.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continues in the chorus, \u201cYou said you were gonna grow up \/ Then you were gonna come find me \/ Said you were gonna grow up \/ Th\u0435n you were gonna come find m\u0435\u00a0 \u2026Words from the mouths of babes\/ Promises oceans deep \/ But never to keep.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Swift has not shared her lyrical inspiration, it has been presumed that \u201cPeter\u201d is based on J.M. Barrie<\/strong>\u2019s play Peter Pan<\/i> which notably inspired the Disney movie of the same name. Her \u201clost fearless leader\u201d line could be referring to Peter Pan\u2019s band of lost boys with \u201cyou were gonna grow up\u201d corresponding to the character wanting to remain youthful forever.<\/p>\n

Swift previously mentioned Peter Pan in her 2020 song \u201cCardigan,\u201d singing, \u201cTried to change the ending \/ Peter losing Wendy, I knew you \/ Leavin\u2019 like a father \/ Running like water, I \/ And when you are young, they assume you know nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

As early as 2006, Swift included a nod to Robert Frost\u2019s poem \u201cThe Road Not Taken\u201d in the song \u201cThe Outside\u201d from her self-titled debut album. \u201cI tried to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a \u201cMaking of \u2018Cardigan\u2019\u201d for YouTube\u2019s Vevo<\/a>, Swift detailed her songwriting process and the inspiration for her lyrics. (\u201cCardigan\u201d was also produced by Dessner, 48.)<\/p>\n

\u201cTaylor developed intentional character arcs and recurring themes across the songs that hap out who is singing about whom,\u201d a footnote reads, connecting \u201cCardigan\u201d to her teenage love triangle starring the fictional James, Betty and August. \u201cIt\u2019s like this one even happened in their town and it affected them each differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added at the time, \u201cI was inspired by the feeling of isolation and how it can either be freeing or terrifying and how it causes you to reminisce on the past.\u201d<\/p>\n
