The Edinburgh Festival Fringe may be known for its immersive theater, but comedian Richard Gadd<\/strong><\/a> does not want you to get involved with his personal life. The creator and star of Netflix\u2019s Baby Reindeer,<\/em> which dramatizes real-life trauma Gadd experienced, took to Instagram to tell fans of his hit series to stop trying to uncover the identities of people depicted in the show.<\/p>\n Based on Gadd\u2019s one-man show of the same name, Baby Reindeer<\/em> finds Gadd playing aspiring comedian and barkeep Donny Dunn, who is harassed and stalked by pub patron Martha (Jessica Gunning<\/strong><\/a>), with the latter sending Donny hundreds of hours of voice messages and more than 40,000 emails. Over the course of the series, Donny develops a friendship with a predatory television comedy writer, Darrien O\u2019Connor (Tom Goodman-Hill<\/strong>), who sexually abuses Donny.<\/p>\n The series has sparked intense speculation from some viewers regarding the actual identities of the people Gadd has written about. particularly Darrien\u2014so much so that director, writer, and Tony nominee Sean Foley<\/strong> contacted the police<\/a> after being falsely accused of being Gadd\u2019s abuser.<\/p>\n \u201cPolice have been informed and are investigating all defamatory abusive and threatening posts against me,\u201d wrote Foley on his X account<\/a>.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Gadd defended Foley and requested that viewers stop trying to determine the identities of those depicted in his series. \u201cPeople I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation,\u201d wrote Gadd in an Instagram story. \u201cPlease don\u2019t speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That\u2019s not the point of our show.
