Jason Antoon<\/strong><\/a> shared his vision for his NCIS: Hawai\u2019i<\/em><\/a> character, Ernie Malik, with Us Weekly<\/em> should the series return for season 4.<\/p>\n

Antoon, who has been playing Ernie since the series premiere in 2021, exclusively told Us<\/em> that he loves how his character is a \u201cbrother or father figure\u201d to Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami<\/strong><\/a>) and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\u201cI just love that he gets all that information out from them, and he secretly probably wants them to get married and wants to marry them,\u201d Antoon, 52, teased of Ernie\u2019s possible fate for the next season<\/a>. \u201cNot that the writers ever said that, but that\u2019s my prediction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIf only fantasy were reality! Fictional TV couples have the ability to make viewers believe in love. So when it comes to their weddings, fans have high expectations for the big day. On The Office, Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesly\u2019s\u00a0(Jenna Fischer) love story was seasons in the making. When it came time for [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The actor explained that he\u2019s officiated in real life, so he\u2019d happily do the job on TV.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure Ernie will come up with some kind of crazy thing [to] officiate their wedding<\/a>,\u201d Antoon said. \u201cIt would be so funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucy and Kate started dating in season 1 of the series and briefly split in season 2 before rekindling their romance later that season.<\/p>\n

Al-Bustami described the relationship between Lucy and Kate as a \u201cteacup ride\u201d that \u201cspins around\u201d during a May 2023 interview with Distractify<\/em><\/a>. She noted that after the first two seasons of the drama, she felt like season 3 helped the couple stop the \u201cride\u201d and become \u201csettled.\u201d<\/p>\n

For fans to get a Lucy and Kate wedding \u2014 and see their romance take another step forward<\/a> \u2014 the series would need to come back for season 4.<\/p>\n

While NCIS<\/em> has been renewed for season 22, NCIS: Hawai\u2019i<\/em> hasn\u2019t officially been picked up by CBS for season 4. (NCIS: Sydney<\/em><\/a> was renewed for season 2 and the new NCIS<\/em> prequel, <\/a>NCIS: Origins,<\/em> was given a full-season order. NCIS\u2019s<\/em> Tony and Ziva spinoff has also been greenlit at Paramount+.)<\/p>\n

Antoon, meanwhile, is optimistic that will change soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Hawaii it\u2019s ohana and joining that [NCIS<\/em> franchise family] has been really awesome, such a gift, and I\u2019m so grateful to be a part of it all,\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cHopefully we can get renewed and continue from our side, from the Hawaiian side. Fingers crossed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Antoon noted that both he and his costars are \u201ccautiously optimistic\u201d about what will come next. \u201cI think we\u2019d all be very shocked and saddened if it didn\u2019t happen,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
