Coughlan and Newton were in a unique situation since<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/bridgerton-which-couples-end-up-together-in-the-books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span class=\"s1\">their characters appear on the show<\/span><\/a> for several years before being promoted to leads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\">Working closely on the first two seasons of <i>Bridgerton <\/i>allowed <\/span>Coughlan and Newton to build a close connection as they eased fans into Penelope and Colin\u2019s friends-to-lovers story line. We were like, \u2018Imagine if we have to kiss and do this,&#8217;\u201d she recalled to <i>Entertainment Tonight<\/i> in June 2023. \u201cAnd then season 3 came on and we were like, \u2018Oh god.\u2019 And then it\u2019s like, it\u2019s my friend. I have to kiss my friend. And you can\u2019t pretend to kiss someone, you have to really kiss them. It\u2019s a spicy one.
