Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s new song \u201cimgonnagetyouback\u201d from The Tortured Poets Department<\/em> is drawing comparisons to Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s \u201cGet Him Back!\u201d \u2014 and many fans are comparing it to their previous conflict with \u201cCruel Summer\u201d and \u201cDeja Vu.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s new song, which appears on the second half of her surprise double album<\/a> The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology<\/em>, features a play on words with the term \u201cget you back.\u201d Will she get back together with her man or will she get revenge?<\/p>\n

On the chorus Swift, 34, sings: \u201cWhether I\u2019m gonna be your wife or \/ Gonna smash up your bike, I haven\u2019t decided yet \/ But I\u2019m gonna get you back \/ Whether I\u2019m gonna curse you out or \/ Take you back to my house, I haven\u2019t decid\u0435d yet \/ But I\u2019m gonna get you back.\u201d<\/p>\n

It immediately sparked comparisons to Rodrigo\u2019s song, \u201cGet Him Back!\u201d in which the 21-year-old uses similar wordplay<\/a>. The single, which she debuted in September 2023, features Rodrigo singing in the chorus, \u201cI wanna get him back \/ I wanna make him really jealous, wanna make him feel bad \/ Oh, I wanna get him back \/ \u2018Cause then again, I really miss him, and it makes me real sad \/ Oh, I want sweet revenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some music lovers have pointed out that Rodrigo and Swift aren\u2019t the first to use the wordplay. Fiona Apple<\/strong>\u2018s 2005 song \u201cGet Him Back\u201d plays with the same double-meaning.<\/p>\n

Others, however, couldn\u2019t help recalling the drama of Rodrigo being forced to share royalties with Swift.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait so Taylor made Olivia Rodrigo give her song writing credit on Deja Vu because it kinda sounded like Cruel Summer. Is Olivia gonna get a credit because imgonnagetyouback has the same conceit as Get Him Back?\u201d one commenter asked.<\/p>\n

A second added, \u201ci love taylor but she stole the entire premise of get him back so i believe olivia should be the one getting writing credits now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodrigo grew up as a self-proclaimed \u201cdiehard\u201d fan of Swift, and the \u201cFortnight\u201d singer showed her support by sending Rodrigo a handwritten note with personalized gifts to celebrate the success of \u201cDriver\u2019s License\u201d in early 2021. Rodrigo continually gushed over Swift while promoting her music, but their friendship may have hit a sour note when \u201cDeja Vu\u201d was released as Rodrigo\u2019s second single in April 2021.<\/p>\n

Swift \u2014 along with cowriters Jack Antonoff<\/strong><\/a> and St. Vincent<\/strong> \u2014 were retroactively credited on the track due to the similarities to Swift\u2019s \u201cCruel Summer.\u201d Billboard<\/em> reported that Rodrigo had given up \u201cmillions\u201d in royalties on the song.<\/p>\n

She and Swift haven\u2019t publicly interacted since, and she claimed she didn\u2019t deal much with the legal issue. \u201cIt\u2019s not something that I was super involved in,\u201d she told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in September 2023. \u201cIt was more team-on-team. So, I wouldn\u2019t be the best person to ask.\u201d<\/p>\n
