The 26-year-old, who shot to fame after playing hysterical schoolgirl Cassie Howard in HBO\u2019s shock \u2018Euphoria\u2019 teen drama, was this week blasted by 81-year-old Carol for her \u201cunwatchable\u201d 2023 comedy \u2018Anyone But You\u2019.<\/p>\n
Her representative has now told The New York Post: \u201cHow sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf that\u2019s what she\u2019s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that\u2019s shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carol \u2013 now an acting teacher and member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose producing credits include \u2018Father of the Bride\u2019 \u2013 hit out at a Sydney on Tuesday following a screening of her 1998 horror-drama film \u2018Dead Ringers\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThere\u2019s an actress who everybody loves now \u2013 Sydney Sweeney,<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI don\u2019t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney\u2019s movie (\u2018Anyone But You\u2019) because I wanted to watch it. I wanted to know who she is and why everybody\u2019s talking about her.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nCarol, who teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, went on to brand the comedy \u201cunwatchable\u201d and said she asked her students to explain to her why Sydney was considered \u201cso hot\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cI said to my class, \u2018Explain this girl to me. She\u2019s not pretty, she can\u2019t act. Why is she so hot?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cNobody had an answer but then the question was asked, \u2018Well, if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018Well that\u2019s a really good question\u2026 that\u2019s a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.’\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFans shot to Sydney\u2019s defence after Carol\u2019s comments were reported by the Daily Mail, defending her as beautiful and a highly-skilled and ambitious actress with a long future ahead of her in movies.<\/p>\n
\nSydney gained an Emmy award nod for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her role in \u2018Euphoria\u2019, which also starred 27-year-old \u2018Dune\u2019 actress Zendaya.<\/p>\n
\nHer latest film is superhero caper \u2018Madame Web\u2019, and Sydney also received an Emmy nomination for her role in popular TV show \u2018The White Lotus\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHer \u2018Anyone But You\u2019 film, in which Sydney starred alongside \u2018Top Gun: Maverick\u2019 actor Glen Powell, 35, was met with mixed reviews, but raked in more than $200 million at the global box office \u2013 making it the highest-earning R-rated romantic comedy since 2016\u2019s \u2018Bridget Jones\u2019s Baby\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
