After undergoing a double mastectomy, Olivia Munn<\/strong><\/a> admitted she had a difficult time adjusting to her new reality.<\/p>\n

Munn, 43, underwent the procedure in May 2023 after being diagnosed with breast cancer<\/a>. One week after the surgery, Munn returned to the hospital to remove her bandages.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw myself for the first time and I was in shock,\u201d Munn told People<\/i><\/a> in a story published Wednesday, April 17. \u201cIt was incredibly hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Calling it a \u201cshock to the system,\u201d Munn reiterated that she was left feeling numb despite her doctor\u2019s assertion that the surgery had gone well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had such a hard time,\u201d Munn continued. \u201cI remember just looking in the mirror with him and just having no emotion, just taking in what he was saying.\u201d<\/p>\n

After leaving the hospital, Munn explained, the emotional floodgates eventually opened.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I got home, I undressed and looked in the mirror again,\u201d she said, \u201cand that\u2019s when I just absolutely broke down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Munn has since had reconstructive surgery<\/a>, which has made things \u201cmuch better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the same,\u201d she noted, \u201cand that\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress began hormone suppression therapy in November 2023 to tame a future risk of cancer, which put Munn into medically induced menopause. Still, despite the struggles, she knows she\u2019s one of the lucky ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here, and I\u2019m extremely happy that I got the opportunity to fight,\u201d Munn said. \u201cI was given that chance, and I know a lot of people in my situation don\u2019t have that as an option. So I\u2019m extremely grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n
