Fans believe one of Taylor Swift\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> most recent breakup tracks could be a response to a Lover<\/em> song once written about her relationship with ex Joe Alwyn<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

After releasing her 2017 \u201crevenge\u201d album, Reputation<\/em> \u2014 where Swift, 34, gave a first glimpse into her love story with Alwyn, 32 \u2014 she followed up with 2019\u2019s Lover<\/em>, a record meant to be a straightforward romance album and the second chapter to the couple\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

Fans began to take a deeper look at Lover\u2019s<\/em> tracklist, however, when many of Swift\u2019s songs \u2014 including \u201cLover,\u201d \u201cMiss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince\u201d and \u201cFalse God\u201d \u2014 landed on her \u201cDenial\u201d playlist<\/a> ahead of the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion,\u201d Swift quipped in a voice note shared via Apple Music earlier this month.<\/p>\n

While \u201cI Think He Knows\u201d was not included on Swift\u2019s \u201cDenial\u201d playlist, eagle-eyed Swifties quickly realized that many of the track\u2019s lyrics coincide with a song off her \u201cDepression\u201d playlist: \u201cYou\u2019re Losing Me,\u201d a vault track off 2022\u2019s Midnights<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI Think He Knows\u201d largely reflects a relationship that is so in sync, words don\u2019t need to be said between two partners. \u201cYou\u2019re Losing Me,\u201d however, revolves around a romance facing an entire communication breakdown, making the two tracks perfect foils for one another.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parallels between I Think He Knows and You\u2019re Losing Me are sending me into orbit,\u201d one fan said via X, while another replied, \u201cI was in the shower and both songs played back to back and I was UNWELL.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third person wrote: \u201cI can\u2019t believe she wrote both of these songs about the same man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift starts the upbeat pop chorus in \u201cI Think He Knows\u201d by proclaiming that her lover has her \u201cheartbeat skipping down 16th Avenue.\u201d She notes that she doesn\u2019t have to tell him how she feels because \u201che knows.\u201d<\/p>\n

In contrast, she claims she can no longer \u201cfind a pulse\u201d in \u201cYou\u2019re Losing Me\u201d as her \u201cheart won\u2019t start anymore.\u201d She also plays back a tense conversation with her partner where the duo can\u2019t seem to get on the same page. \u201cYou say, \u2018I don\u2019t understand, and I say, \u2018I know you don\u2019t,\u2019\u201d she sings.<\/p>\n

Swift also brags about being the apple of her lover\u2019s<\/a> eye in \u201cI Think He Knows,\u201d exclaiming to the listener, \u201cI think he knows he better lock it down \/ Or I won\u2019t stick around.\u201d She lets her anxieties get the best of her, however, in \u201cYou\u2019re Losing Me,\u201d where she confesses, \u201cI wouldn\u2019t marry me either,\u201d before labeling herself a \u201cpathological people pleaser\u201d who only wanted \u201cyou to see her.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two bridges \u2014 an aspect of songwriting Swift is most famous for \u2014 also highlight the dichotomy between the tunes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s so obsessed with me and boy, I understand,\u201d she croons in \u201cI Think He Knows,\u201d while she pleads just to be seen in \u201cYou\u2019re Losing Me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFront lines, don\u2019t you ignore me,\u201d she begs, reminding him, \u201cI\u2019m the best thing at this party.\u201d<\/p>\n

While some fans see the tracks as opposites, others feel that even \u201cI Think He Knows\u201d demonstrates doubt in Swift\u2019s romance with Alwyn, as she never phrases any of her seemingly confident phrases as fact, only possibility with the addition of the words \u201cI think.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, this actually hurts,\u201d one Swiftie wrote alongside a snapshot of the duel lyrics.<\/p>\n

Swift and Alwyn dated for nearly six years<\/a> before their April 2023 split. Throughout their relationship, the pair opted to keep out of the spotlight, often walking red carpets solo even when attending the same events. Shortly after the breakup, a source exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> that Swift\u2019s celebrity status contributed to the twosome calling it quits.<\/p>\n
