American Idol<\/em><\/a> contestant Emmy Russell<\/strong><\/a> provoked an emotional reaction with her Top 20 performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m crying,\u201d host Ryan Seacrest<\/strong><\/a> said after Russell sang her original song titled \u201cWant You\u201d on the Sunday, April 14, episode of the ABC competition series.<\/p>\n

Before her performance, Russell explained that the song was about a romantic partner who didn\u2019t share the same feelings. \u201cI want you to want me \/ Like I want you \/ I want you to need me \/ Like I need you,\u201d she sang.<\/p>\n

After the 49-year-old host was moved to tears, judge Katy Perry<\/strong> asked, \u201cRyan, do you want somebody to want you like that, too?\u201d He replied, \u201cLove me, love me like I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJim Carrey\u2019s daughter, Aretha Franklin\u2019s granddaughter and more celebrity kids have tried out for American Idol. The comedian\u2019s then-26-year-old, Jane, auditioned for the ABC show in 2012. While the waitress made it to Hollywood Week at the time, she was cut after performing \u201cLooking Out My Back Door\u201d by Creedence Clearwater Revival. \u201cI freaked out [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a sweet gesture, Luke Bryan<\/strong><\/a> got up from the judges\u2019 desk to comfort Seacrest. \u201cRyan, I\u2019ll give you a hug,\u201d he said before Seacrest hilariously jumped into his arms.<\/p>\n

Seacrest proceeded to tell Russell, who is the granddaughter of country legend Loretta Lynn<\/strong>, why he reacted the way he did. \u201cKnowing that was your song, you started writing at 9, and those are your lyrics, it was just so emotional backstage,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

While giving feedback on Russell\u2019s performance, Bryan, 47, joked that Seacrest was the \u201cmost expensive thing I\u2019ve ever held.\u201d He echoed Seacrest\u2019s love for the song and praised Russell, saying, \u201cThat was so you. I loved it because it was so real, and I think we could really feel the emotion in that, and that\u2019s what your artistry is about and don\u2019t lose that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryan continued, \u201cThat thing that you did with that song really is your signature. It was very emotional and probably my favorite performance that you\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>\n

American Idol\u2018s freshman season introduced Kelly Clarkson, who would become the show\u2019s first breakout star. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While fellow judge Lionel Richie<\/strong> shared a similar sentiment, Perry, 39, offered Russell some constructive criticism. \u201cMiss Emmy, that was one of my favorite original songs that you\u2019ve sang. I know you were just a little nervous. I just want more breath, more long notes,\u201d the pop star stated. \u201cGirl, like, go swimming. Learn how to hold your breath more. Like, we need longer notes from Emmy, and I know you have them. We need power, c\u2019mon, let\u2019s go. The time is now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russell\u2019s original song was enough to save her from the night\u2019s eliminations as contestants Elleigh Marie<\/strong>, KBlocks<\/strong>, Blake Proehl<\/strong> and Hailey Mia<\/strong> were sent home.<\/p>\n
