\nBest-known as \u2018The Shooter\u2019 to ring fans, Tony was an APW Universal Heavyweight Champion and notched up a string of appearances in World Wrestling Entertainment in 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2007 \u2013 but is probably most famed for his role alongside his on-off tag team partner Mike Modest, 52, in Barry W Blaustein\u2019s 1999 documentary \u2018Beyond the Mat\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHis death was announced in a statement from All Pro Wrestling that said: \u201cAll Pro Wrestling is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former APW Universal Heavyweight Champion, \u2018Shooter\u2019 Tony Jones. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cShooter, Rest in Power. Enjoy paradise with your Baby Girl. We\u2019ll always love you, brother. Anthony \u2018Shooter\u2019 Jones 1971\u20132024.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFurther details about Tony\u2019s death have not yet been released.<\/p>\n
\nFans shared their devastation at the loss, with one saying on X: \u201cMy first ever wrestling show was at Pro-Wrestling Iron International Challenge Vol 1.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhen I first saw \u2018Shooter\u2019 Tony Jones, that man was something special, he was very talented, and very underrated. RIP \u2018Shooter\u2019 Tony Jones.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnother added: \u201cCalifornia indy wrestling mainstay. Most will remember him from \u2018Beyond the Mat\u2019 when he and Mike Modest had a try-out match w\/WWF. \u201cAnd JR telling him to add more muscle to his upper body so he\u2019ll \u2018Be in the hunt\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBorn in San Francisco, 6ft 5in-tall Tony went to the Archbishop Riordan High School where he was a prodigy in the fields of wrestling, football and running.<\/p>\n
\nHe continued his wrestling career at San Francisco State University, graduating with a degree in broadcasting in 1995.<\/p>\n
\nAt a weight of 270lbs, Tony undertook professional wrestling training at Roland Alexander’s All Pro Wrestling school and made his debut in January 1997.<\/p>\n
\nFilmmaker Barry Blaustein\u2019s \u2018Beyond the Mat\u2019 traced his journey into the wrestling world and captured his WWE try-out match along with Michael Modest \u2013 real name Michael K Cariglio \u2013 in September 1998.<\/p>\n
\nTony was ranked in the \u2018Pro-Wrestling Illustrated\u2019 Top 500 in 1998 at number 462 \u2013 but rose to 213 in the league table in 2004.<\/p>\n
\nHe had two children, and was left devastated when his daughter Selina died in 2000.<\/p>\n
\nTony wrote on Facebook on 19 January, 2004: \u201cMy baby girl would have been 24 years old today. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThere isn\u2019t a day that goes by that I don\u2019t think and love her to my fullest. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSelina started to like pro-wrestling (I wonder why lol) so I\u2019m sharing one of my past birthday wishes to my princess. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cKeep looking over me and I promise to always represent you. Happy heavenly birthday princess.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cDaddy loves you so much baby girl.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
