Their latest duet, \u201cPurple Irises,\u201d<\/a> dropped in late February and became an instant hit, just like their previous collaborations. The \u201cDon\u2019t Speak\u201d singer, 54, said she wrote the song as a way to be \u201chonest\u201d about her insecurities around getting older, and when she showed it to Blake, 47, they decided to record it together. \u2018\u2018Creating this song was magic,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n Now the pair \u2014 who met on the set of The Voice<\/em> and began dating in 2015 \u2014 are tackling their biggest project yet: having a baby. But the journey hasn\u2019t been easy, sources tell Life & Style<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cGwen and Blake have been wanting a baby of their own for years now,\u201d says a source. \u201cThey\u2019ve had surrogates on board, but something always seems to fall through at the last minute. It\u2019s been a struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n Though the No Doubt frontwoman has three children \u2013 Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10<\/a> \u2013 with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale<\/strong><\/a>, she and Blake had been reportedly trying to get pregnant well before their 2021 wedding. Having no luck with conventional methods, the pair looked to surrogacy, says the source: \u201cThey\u2019ve even talked to other celebrities who\u2019ve used surrogates successfully, like Nick Jonas<\/strong>, whom they befriended on The Voice<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n But for whatever reason, nothing has worked out yet.<\/p>\n \u201cIt must be a complicated situation,\u201d says the source. \u201cMaybe something just didn\u2019t feel right for Gwen or for Blake or for both of them. In one instance, friends say Gwen wanted to use a surrogate in California and Blake wanted someone far removed from Hollywood. In another case, the surrogate backed out because of the pressure. When it doesn\u2019t work out, it\u2019s wrenching for Gwen and Blake.\u201d<\/p>\n Choosing the right woman to make their dream a reality is an emotional process for the couple.<\/p>\n \u201cThey both want to connect with the surrogate, because obviously there\u2019s a lot at stake,\u201d says the source. \u201cIt\u2019s a huge commitment, and they just want to get it right.\u201d<\/p>\n Because of their strong faith, Gwen and Blake believe they will soon find the perfect surrogate, and their dream of having a child together will become a reality.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile this whole process has been extremely difficult for them, it\u2019s really brought them closer together,\u201d says the source. \u201cBlake just wants Gwen to be happy, and she wants the same for him.
