Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> didn\u2019t just find inspiration from Joe Alwyn<\/strong><\/a> during their relationship, they also collaborated on some of her songs.<\/p>\n

Alwyn was credited as a songwriter on several of Swift\u2019s tracks throughout their relationship. He wrote under the pen name William Bowery, which Swift confirmed<\/a> herself in her November 2020 documentary, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity because it\u2019s not a real person,\u201d Swift said at the time. \u201cSo, William Bowery is Joe, as we know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alwyn earned a Grammy in 2021 after Swift took home the award for Album of the Year for Folklore<\/em>. In her acceptance speech, Swift gave her then-boyfriend a shoutout.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThey\u2019re so gorgeous! Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn kept their romance relatively private, but there were plenty of milestones to look back on prior to their April 2023 split. Swift\u2019s relationship with the U.K. native was made public in May 2017. One year later, a source told Us Weekly exclusively that the \u201cCardigan\u201d singer believed [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJoe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,\u201d she said during the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.<\/p>\n

Two years later, Alwyn shared that he didn\u2019t see writing more songs<\/a> with Swift in his future.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not a plan of mine, no,\u201d the actor told Elle magazine in April 2022, when asked if he has any interest in continuing to song write alongside his then-girlfriend. (Alwyn did however, continue to write with Swift, as he is credited on \u201cSweet Nothing\u201d from her 2022 album Midnights<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

One year later, Swift and Alwyn called it quits after six years of dating. While Swift and Alwyn have moved on from their romance and partnership, Alwyn still gets paid for his contributions<\/a>. Multiple outlets reported that the actor will make \u201ca five-figure sum every year\u201d due to his involvement in the songs.<\/p>\n

\u2018Exile\u2019<\/h3>\n

During a May 2022 interview with Vulture<\/em><\/a>, Alwyn shared that he was \u201cmessing around\u201d on the piano with a melody that would become Swift\u2019s duet with Bon Iver.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was completely off the cuff, an accident,\u201d he said at the time. \u201c[Taylor] said, \u2018Can we try and sit down and get to the end together?\u2019 And so we did. It was as basic as some people made sourdough.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to writing \u201cBetty,\u201d Alwyn is also credited as a coproducer of the track. He admitted that the song came about thanks to the encouragement of Swift.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d probably had a drink and was just stumbling around the house,\u201d Alwyn recalled. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t decide on a film to watch that night, and she was like, \u2018Do you want to try and finish writing that song you were singing earlier?\u2019 And so we got a guitar and did that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alwyn is listed as a cowriter on the ballad that Swift tells the story of \u201clongtime college sweethearts\u201d who \u201chad very different plans for the same night, one to end it and one who brought a ring,\u201d per her Evermore<\/em> note page.<\/p>\n
