Richard Linklater<\/a>\u2019s 1993 high school comedy-drama \u2018Dazed and Confused\u2019 and has now opened up about the impact it has had on him in the decades since.<\/p>\nHe told People: \u201cI had no idea that that line would precede me for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople ask me all the time, \u2018Are you tired of that preceding you?\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Hell, no.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Matthew has previously revealed he improvised the \u201cAlright, alright, alright\u201d line in \u2018Dazed and Confused\u2019 as it wasn\u2019t in the original script.<\/p>\n
\nHe added to People: \u201cThat (came) out of my mouth in a scene that I was never supposed to be in, that was never written.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMatthew said it was the result of him \u201cstarting to get a little nervous\u201d about who his character was, adding: \u201cI started to go, Well, who\u2019s my man? Who\u2019s Wooderson?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018Wooderson loves his car\u2019, and I\u2019m like, well, \u2018I\u2019m in my car.\u2019 There’s one.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018Wooderson loves rock \u2019n\u2019 roll\u2019… well, I got Ted Nugent in the eight-track.\u2019 There\u2019s two.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018Wooderson loves to get high\u2019, and I\u2019m like, well, Slater\u2019s (stoner Ron Slater, played by Rory Cochrane) riding shotgun. He\u2019s always got a doobie rolled up.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThen I said, \u2018Wooderson likes picking up chicks\u2019\u2026 then all of a sudden, I heard, \u2018Action!\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAs I put it in drive, I thought to myself, \u2018I got three out of four and I\u2019m going to get the fourth: \u2018Alright, alright, alright.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat was three affirmations for the thing that my character had as he was going to get his fourth. It was a kick-starter.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMatthew says the line in a scene where he pulls his car alongside actress Marissa Ribisi, now 49, in a drive-thru to try and pick her up.<\/p>\n
\nThe impact of the line was so great on Matthew\u2019s career he quoted it when he picked up his best actor award for \u2018Dallas Buyers Club\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cEvery time I hear it, I\u2019m like, \u2018That was the first three words you said ever on film 30-something years ago.\u2019 I take it as a compliment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
