The 43-year-old actor, who played Ken in director Greta Gerwig\u2019s \u2018Barbie<\/a>\u2019 movie, said he feared there was too much that could \u201cwrong\u201d with the performance when he was approached by the producers of this year\u2019s Academy Awards with the idea he should perform it on stage.<\/p>\n

He said on \u2018The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u2019: \u201c(It was) 100 per cent no.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of ways that could go wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

When host Jimmy, 49, read positive reviews about Ryan\u2019s performance, he referenced the talk show host\u2019s house band when he jokingly replied: \u201cImagine the reviews I would have had if I\u2019d have had The Roots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nRyan\u2019s \u2018I\u2019m Just Ken\u2019 performance saw him dancing in a pink suit and black cowboy hat while joined onstage by the song\u2019s writer and producer Mark Ronson as well as his fellow movie \u2018Kens\u2019 \u2013 Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir.<\/p>\n

\nRyan was also joined by Guns N\u2019 Roses guitarist Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen, and at one point the actor handed his mic to audience members Margot Robbie \u2013 who played \u2018Barbie\u2019 in Greta\u2019s blockbuster \u2013 as well as Emma Stone, America Ferrera and Greta.<\/p>\n

\nRyan \u2013 who has daughters Esmeralda Amada, nine, and Amada Lee, seven, with his long-time partner Eva Mendes, 50 \u2013 said his kids\u2019 reaction to his Oscars performance was: \u201cDad\u2019s Kenning again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nHe added about how his girls inspired him to take the Ken role: \u201cI mean it was their interest in Barbie and their disinterest in Ken that sort of started all of this.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt\u2019s really been a team effort. They were on the film and they came to set when I filmed the number but it\u2019s also been like a lot of this has no context for them.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cYou know it\u2019s just like a lot of fake tan stains around the house, bleached hair.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cSo I wanted to them to come to the dress rehearsal just to give it some kind of context for what had been going on.”<\/p>\n

\nKen also said his Oscars performance was his girls\u2019 first experience of live music, adding: \u201cThey knew all the choreography better than I do. And the songs, oh my God, they\u2019re backstage kind of like showing me (jazz hands), you know.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
