Whether it\u2019s the middle of summer or the dead of winter, I\u2019ll always<\/em> opt for an iced coffee<\/a> over a hot one. But even though it\u2019s an all-year beverage for me, iced coffee season has officially arrived, and it starts to get expensive if you\u2019re constantly going to a caf\u00e9 to get your fix. (I\u2019m speaking from experience here.) There are a few reasons why, thus far, I haven\u2019t been making my iced coffee at home. My old machine was a classic Keurig, so it didn\u2019t have an iced function. Recently, though, I upgraded to a different model that does<\/a>, and it\u2019s been amazing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n However, there is one setback that I didn\u2019t really take into account: It\u2019s a hassle making sure I always have enough ice. The fridge in my Brooklyn apartment didn\u2019t come with an ice maker, so I have to use molds. They\u2019re way more trouble than they\u2019re worth. I never have enough ice anyway, since my freezer is too small for multiple trays, and it always ends up becoming a whole production to remove the cubes.\u00a0<\/p>\n That\u2019s where the HyperChiller<\/a> comes in. This $25 gadget changed everything, and I honestly don\u2019t know why it took me so long to get one. Now I can get perfectly chilled coffee in no time without using ice cubes at all.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n After cleaning the HyperChiller<\/a> in the dishwasher or by hand, all you have to do is fill one of the stainless steel chambers up with water and place it in the freezer overnight. (There are vents to regulate pressure inside.) Then you can place the gadget under your brewer or pour hot coffee right into it. It can hold up to 12.5 ounces, which is more than enough for your daily cup. The center of the lid is slightly concaved and slanted, so there\u2019s no overflow, and the liquid moves into the inside chamber via a small opening. Once the liquid is inside the HyperChiller, you swirl it around for about a minute. Voil\u00e0: When you pour your coffee out of the spout, it\u2019ll be 72\u25e6<\/sup>F. You can add ice, or drink it on its own \u2014 the latter means that it won\u2019t get diluted by melted ice.<\/p>\n Iced coffee lover or not, the HyperChiller also works for any kind of drink that you want to be near-instantly cooled. Soda, cocktails, and tea are all fair game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n With the HyperChiller, iced coffee has become a total breeze. In fact, I drink it more often than I used to, given the fact that I don\u2019t have to go to a coffee shop or mess with my ice molds anymore. At 4.25\u00d76.75 inches, it does take up a decent amount of space in my tiny freezer (that I share with two roommates), but it\u2019s totally worth it. So far, I\u2019ve been placing the gadget right underneath my machine and brewing coffee on the \u201chot\u201d setting directly into it. The whole process takes hardly any effort, aside from swirling my coffee around for a bit. (Once, I skipped that step and just let it sit inside for a moment. Everything turned out fine.) It is a little wide, so you might have to use two hands to pour, but it\u2019s really no sweat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Cleanup is effortless too. For a quicker clean after use, you can just rinse it out without removing the lid, like I do. I have yet to see how it holds up in the dishwasher, because it\u2019s so easy to do a more thorough cleaning by hand.
