Lance Reddick, the actor known for his work on\u00a0The Wire<\/em> and in the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> film franchise, died Friday morning. He was 60.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAcclaimed actor Lance Reddick passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes,\u201d his publicist confirmed to Vanity Fair.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n Reddick was a prolific actor who worked across both film and television, with roles on HBO\u2019s\u00a0Oz,<\/em> Amazon\u2019s\u00a0Bosch,<\/em> and Netflix\u2019s Resident Evil.<\/em> But he was perhaps best known for his role as the ambitious and tough Lieutenant Cedric Daniels on\u00a0The Wire.<\/em> David Simon<\/strong>\u2019s police drama introduced him to many television viewers. \u201cIt really became a worldwide phenomenon through people sharing the DVDs all over the world,\u201d Reddick told\u00a0GQ<\/em> in 2019<\/a>, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s an iconic piece of history and I feel very fortunate and proud of the work we did with that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n More recently, Reddick appeared in the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> movies as Charon, a concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York. The fourth movie in the franchise,\u00a0John Wick: Chapter 4<\/em>, premieres March 24, and Reddick had recently been doing promotional work for the film. He was also expected to reprise his role in\u00a0Ballerina,<\/em> the\u00a0John Wick<\/em> spin-off starring Ana de Armas.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n Reddick was born in Baltimore and developed a passion for music at a young age. He played piano and studied classical music composition at the University of Rochester\u2019s Eastman School of Music. But after suffering an injury while working as a struggling musician in Boston, he turned his attention to acting. He studied at Yale School of Drama and began booking television roles in the mid-1990s. Over the years, he appeared in projects as varied as Lost<\/em>, Fringe<\/em>, and Comedy Central\u2019s Corporate.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n Throughout his career, Reddick remained devoted to music, even releasing an album, Contemplations & Remembrances,<\/em> in 2007. He also lent his talents to video games such as\u00a0Destiny<\/em> and\u00a0Horizon Zero Dawn.<\/em> In addition to his work in the upcoming\u00a0John Wick: Chapter 4<\/em> and\u00a0Ballerina,<\/em> Reddick is expected to appear posthumously in the\u00a0White Men Can\u2019t Jump<\/em> remake out in May and in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians<\/em>\u00a0series for Disney+.\u00a0<\/p>\n
