Married at First Sight<\/a> <\/i>exes Emily Balch<\/strong> and Brennan Shoykhet<\/strong> are still at odds over what went wrong in their marriage.<\/p>\n

In Us Weekly<\/i>\u2019s exclusive sneak peek of the season 17 reunion, Emily, 29, and Brennan, 28, came face-to-face to rehash their issues. During their chat with host Kevin Frazier<\/strong>, Brennan attempts to explain their failed couple\u2019s therapy session<\/a> with Dr. Pia Holec<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was way too concerned with how it would make Emily feel,\u201d Brennan says of his resistance to sharing his feelings during the sit-down.<\/p>\n

Emily, however, posits that Brennan was only being \u201cconsiderate\u201d of how it made him feel.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen it comes to reality TV couples, it\u2019s not easy to make a relationship last \u2013 but many from Married at First Sight have proven that they could do just that. The Lifetime series follows multiple couples who are paired up by relationship experts and agree to tie the knot upon their first meeting. They [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI told you a million times, \u2018I\u2019m a big girl.\u2019 You\u2019d say the meanest things and I\u2019d be like, \u2018Great,\u2019\u201d she explains. \u201cYou saying something mean is actually progress for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emily and Brennan were matched by the MAFS <\/i>experts when the Lifetime reality show came to Denver<\/a>. Emily was immediately drawn to her stranger spouse, revealing on their wedding day that he was her physical type. Brennan, however, did not feel the same and was even resistant to move in with Emily.<\/p>\n

The couples\u2019 retreat one month later proved to be a brief respite, with Brennan stepping up to support Emily after a traumatic ATV crash left her hospitalized and requiring surgery. He moved into their shared apartment to help take care of Emily, but feelings of hesitation lingered leading to two therapy sessions with Dr. Pia.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, that was actually my first time in therapy. Where I felt the conversation as going, we already had resolved,\u201d Brennan says during the reunion segment. \u201c[I] didn\u2019t know that you didn\u2019t feel that way. In my head, it was like a free therapy session [and] let\u2019s take advantage of this and actually focus on the problems we needed to address. So, I do apologize for the scene with Dr. Pia.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continues, \u201cI was not trying to control the situation. I misread the intent of it [and] I misread the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emily, meanwhile, asserts that she felt Brennan was trying to manipulate her by shutting down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope you can generally see you were controlling. I don\u2019t want you to say you were controlling if you don\u2019t mean it,\u201d the bride says. \u201cI hope you can actually look at that and see the control. What you did there hurts more than you saying hurtful things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emily, who had never had a relationship prior to marrying Brennan at first sight, notes that Brennan likely doesn\u2019t understand how she doesn\u2019t \u201cgive a f\u2014k about a lot of things\u201d and actually is self-confident in many areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re acting like I need protection, which is now a trigger word for me because you\u2019re like, \u2018I was protecting her.\u2019 No, you were protecting yourself,\u201d Emily says.<\/p>\n
