Turning the ballroom into a runway! Tyra Banks<\/strong><\/a> had big shoes to fill after replacing Tom Bergeron<\/strong><\/a> and Erin Andrews<\/strong><\/a> as the host of Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a> in 2020 \u2014 and she took every trial and tribulation in stride.<\/p>\n ABC shocked viewers when it announced in July 2020 that Bergeron and Andrews would no longer appear on the dance competition<\/a>. The former America\u2019s Funniest Home Videos<\/em> host had been on the show since season 1 in 2005, and the sportscaster joined him nine years later after competing on season 10. Two days after the news broke, the network revealed that Banks had been tapped to take over<\/a> for season 29.<\/p>\n \u201cTyra is an award-winning multihyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark,\u201d ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke<\/strong> said in a statement at the time. \u201cHer fresh take on America\u2019s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a \u2018smize\u2019 to fans everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n While Banks was no stranger to reality TV, having previously hosted shows including America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/em> and America\u2019s Got Talent<\/em>, it took her a few weeks to settle into her new role.<\/p>\n \u201cTonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing With the Stars<\/em> that I\u2019m hosting this season, and it wasn\u2019t perfect<\/a>,\u201d she admitted in a September 2020 TikTok video. \u201cYeah, I had a lot of fun, but I messed up, I said the wrong words. But the thing is, I kept, kept going.\u201d<\/p>\n The model had another snafu the following month when she announced the wrong bottom two couples<\/a> due to an issue in the control room. After taking a second to figure out what went wrong, she composed herself like a consummate professional and proceeded to read the correct results.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Tyra dealt with it amazingly,\u201d DWTS<\/em> executive producer Andrew Llinares<\/strong> later told Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI just want to be really clear, this was not Tyra\u2019s fault. It was a behind-the-scenes issue.\u201d<\/p>\n Bruno Tonioli<\/strong><\/a>, who has served as a judge on the show since its inception, also rushed to Banks\u2019 defense, telling the outlet, \u201cIt\u2019s live television, things like this happen, especially with information coming in from all over the country, voting and calculating in such a small amount of time. Tyra was brilliant. \u2026 She was really good because she took control of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n Following DWTS\u2019 switch from ABC to Disney+<\/a>, the network announced that Banks would be cohosting with Alfonso Ribeiro<\/strong><\/a> for season 31.<\/p>\n \u201cSo excited to finally reveal this!
