The centrist group No Labels\u2014which has threatened<\/a> for more than a year to run a third-party presidential candidate who Democrats feared<\/a> would take votes from Joe Biden<\/strong>\u2014announced Thursday it will not enter the race. \u201cNo Labels is ending our effort to put forth a Unity ticket in the 2024 presidential election,\u201d founder and CEO Nancy Jacobson<\/strong> said<\/a> in a statement, adding that the group had said all along it \u201cwould only offer our ballot line to a ticket if we could identify candidates with a credible path to winning the White House. No such candidates emerged, so the responsible course of action is for us to stand down.\u201d<\/p>\n Potential candidates the group reportedly approached\u2014and was turned down by\u2014include former New Jersey governor (and GOP presidential candidate) Chris Christie,<\/strong> former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley,<\/strong> former Maryland governor Larry Hogan,<\/strong> and Senator Joe Manchin.<\/strong> Asked about the prospect of Manchin running, Senator\u00a0Debbie Stabenow<\/strong>\u00a0told The Hill<\/em><\/a> last year, \u201cI think it would be very, very unfortunate if\u00a0Joe Manchin\u00a0decided to do that\u2026he knows that if he were to step in [to the race] that it would make it much more likely Donald Trump<\/strong> would be president again.\u201d<\/p>\n Of course, just because No Labels\u2014whose founding chairman, Joe Lieberman,<\/strong> died last week\u2014is bowing out does not mean Democrats can breathe easy. And that\u2018s thanks in part to Robert F.
