Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s mother Carole Middleton<\/strong> is \u201cdesperately\u201d trying to shield her from a devastating new blow to the family as she undergoes cancer treatment, Us weekly<\/em> can exclusively reveal.<\/p>\n

Carole, 69, and her husband Michael Middleton<\/strong>, 74, who are also parents to Pippa, <\/strong>40,and James Middleton<\/strong>, 36, are facing serious debt that they are reportedly unable to pay off.<\/p>\n

According to the UK\u2019s The Times<\/em><\/a> newspaper, the pair cannot come up with the \u201c\u00a3260,000 (over $329,000) insolvency firm costs\u201d for their embattled business The Party Pieces Company, .<\/p>\n

The firm responsible for handling the insolvency of Carole\u2019s business has acknowledged the couple cannot pay the total fees.<\/p>\n

Kensington Palace announced in January 2024 that Kate would be out of the public eye until after Easter following a planned abdominal surgery. \u201cThe Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. The Party Pieces<\/em> company, set up by the Middletons back in 1987, went into administration last June, owing creditors \u00a32.6million.<\/p>\n

But as the family deals with their business woes, Us<\/em> has learned that Carole, who has been by Kate\u2019s side<\/a> during her cancer battle, is determined to stop her daughter from worrying about their problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarole is desperately trying to keep Catherine fully focused on her recovery,\u201d a source tells Us<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s a very worrying time for the family but they are not looking for any assistance from their children and don\u2019t want them to worry.<\/p>\n

\u201cCatherine and her parents are very close and they always check in with each other, but talk about the business is off limits as she needs to focus on her health.\u201d<\/p>\n

Royal commentator Afua Hagan<\/strong> also tells Us<\/em>, \u201cCarole will be doing all she can right now to stop her daughter from stressing as she undergoes chemotherapy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a stressful time at the moment and she will be pulling out all the stops to shield her daughter from this.<\/p>\n

\u201cParty Pieces has collapsed and it\u2019s been devastating for the family, but Carole will be most concerned about Kate\u2019s well-being right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interpath Advisory was appointed to manage its collapse. According to The Times, it has found itself unable to cover all costs as the rapidly increasing sum surpasses $329,000.<\/p>\n

It has also meant that Interpath\u2019s team were not able to recoup the total fees for the work by its restructuring professionals, who were charging an \u201caverage hourly rate of \u00a3566 ($716)\u201d. At the time, reports suggested that Carole had been left \u201cupset and deeply disappointed\u201d by the situation.<\/p>\n

Before marrying Prince William<\/strong>, Kate worked as project manager for Party Pieces. She ended her time with them ahead of her and the prince\u2019s 2011 wedding.<\/p>\n

A royal aide told People<\/em> magazine at the time, \u201cShe has handed over her work to colleagues and is now preparing for her future life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2021, there were reports that Party Pieces<\/a> had faced a major loss of over \u00a3250,000 ($316,000) following the effects of the pandemic. Despite this, the business launched a retail partnership in the US.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very exciting to see our Party Pieces Collection expanding into the US starting with Saker ShopRites, a leading retailer in New Jersey and family-owned business with a long history of commitment to the customers and communities its stores serve,\u201d Carole said at the time.<\/p>\n

However, soon after, the future of the business looked uncertain as two of their three financial backers, lingerie tycoon Steven Bentwood and former chairman of Oxford United Football Club, Darryl Eales, stepped down as directors.<\/p>\n

Then the business appointed consultancy Interpath to give them \u201coptions\u201d, which, according to the UK\u2019s The Daily Telegraph<\/em><\/a>, included \u201ca sale or finding new investors.\u201d The business then fell into administration, with over \u00a32.5 million ($3.16 million) of debt.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAfter Princess Kate Middleton revealed she has been diagnosed with cancer, several celebrities were forced to offer their mea culpas. Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in an emotional video on March 22, ending weeks of speculation about her whereabouts and well-being. Among those questioning the princess\u2019 condition were some household names Stateside, who were forced [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cDue to the company\u2019s cash flow challenges and inability to secure additional funding, rescuing the company\u2026 is not achievable,\u201d a report filed to Companies House in June of 2023.<\/p>\n

A close friend of Carol\u2019s told the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> at the time: \u201cCarole is understandably upset and deeply disappointed in this situation. Over the past five months she really has done her best to find a buyer, who not only would take the business forward, but would also honor any outstanding debts.<\/p>\n
