What We Tested:<\/strong> In this installment of The Test Kitchn, we tested out some of the vegan, gluten-free donut holes from Deux<\/a>. The donut holes are made with \u201cclean ingredients\u201d like zinc, elderberry, and aloe vera; have no preservatives; and are free from artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners. In addition to donut holes, Deux sells cookie dough<\/a>, dessert spreads<\/a>, and merch<\/a>. They also have several free gifts that you can tack onto your order with unique promo codes. Deux products are available both online and in-store \u2014 just use the store locator function on the site to find the location nearest you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This week, we have Morgan Pryor,<\/strong> commerce editorial assistant; Chanel Fetaz, <\/strong>director of product design and UX; Nikol Slatinksa,<\/strong> shopping writer; and Alicia Kort,<\/strong> deputy commerce editor. None of our testers are vegan or gluten-free, either, so we won\u2019t be pulling our punches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Deux Donuts: <\/a><\/strong>These \u201cdonuts,\u201d as they\u2019re called (they\u2019re actually donut holes, which is also kind of a misnomer in itself, but we won\u2019t get into that), come in four flavors: Glazed, Chocolate Glaze, Not-So-Red Velvet, and Cinnamon Sugar, which is a collab with Chamberlain Coffee<\/a>, a brand our editors love. Not-So-Red Velvet was out of stock when we tested, so we weren\u2019t able to get our hands on a sample, but if they\u2019re anything like the others, they\u2019re sure to be \u2026 actually, never mind \u2014 no spoilers!\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

How We Tested:<\/strong> Since the donuts come in easy-to-open, resealable packages, there was virtually no prep to be done on the day of the test. I just set them out in a few bowls and called in the testers. Our testers sampled them all, and I urged everyone to really be discerning in their ratings and rankings. In the end we reached a clear consensus on the favorite.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Glazed Donuts<\/a><\/strong>: Our testers thought the Glazed donuts were a touch dry, but not too bad! \u201cI liked this one the most even though it was the crumbliest,\u201d Nikol explained. \u201cIt tasted pretty close to a real glazed donut.\u201d Morgan and Chanel liked that it wasn\u2019t overwhelmingly rich or too overpoweringly sweet.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Chocolate Glazed Donuts<\/a><\/strong>: Chocolate was a bigger hit with our testers. \u201cI really liked the glaze, and it was definitely more brownie- or cake-like,\u201d Morgan noted. Nikol agreed, saying that \u201cthe chocolate flavor was good, and it also wasn\u2019t as crumbly as the first one.\u201d Alicia was a big fan of the chocolate flavor as well. \u201cThe chocolate flavor was my favorite,\u201d she explained. \u201cI could see myself snacking on these \u2014 I was shocked to see that they have less sugar than the Greek yogurt I have for breakfast, so I was surprised that for a gluten-free, low-sugar, and vegan snack, it could taste so good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts<\/a><\/strong>: The favorite by a nose were the Cinnamon Sugar donuts. Alicia said that these tasted more like a donut hole than the regular flavor, and Chanel loved them too, explaining that they had a strong cinnamon flavor, which she really enjoyed. \u201cMost times when things are described as cinnamon, it\u2019s more faint,\u201d she said. Morgan agreed, explaining that \u201cit had a more intense flavor, but it wasn\u2019t too overpowering \u2014 I think I could snack on them without getting sick of the flavor.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Good to Know:<\/strong> Since they\u2019re made with less sugar and are vegan and gluten-free, don\u2019t expect these to taste exactly the same as Munchkins from Dunkin\u2019 \u2014 that being said, these are a nice alternative that are accessible for more people and a delicious treat for everyone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
