Shakira<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s two preteen sons weren\u2019t feeling the Kenergy when it came to the Barbie<\/em><\/a> movie, as the singer revealed they came away loathing the film and its message.<\/p>\n \u201cMy sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent,\u201d Shakira, 47, told Allure<\/em> in an interview published on Monday, April 1.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m raising two boys. I want them to feel powerful too [while] respecting women,\u201d she continued. The Grammy winner shares son Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, with former partner Gerard Piqu\u00e9<\/strong>. \u201cI like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost,\u201d the Colombia native explained.<\/p>\n Shakira continued, \u201cWhy not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who have a duty to carry it as well?\u201d<\/p>\n In the movie, Margot Robbie<\/strong>\u2018s Barbie World featured a matriarchy with the females in charge. After a visit to the real world, Ryan Gosling<\/strong>\u2018s Ken discovered that the real world is a patriarchy where men have more power. He takes that message back to the Barbie World where then Kens take over and the Barbies are relegated to being subservient.<\/p>\n That is, until America Ferrera<\/strong>\u2018s Gloria and Barbie return to discover what happened. That\u2019s when America delivered the epic monologue about womanhood<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don\u2019t think you\u2019re good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we\u2019re always doing it wrong,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n \u201cYou have to answer for men\u2019s bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you\u2019re accused of complaining.
