Ben Affleck<\/strong>, historically\u00a0a fun person to witness being a celebrity<\/a>, got candid about his life and career, including the \u201cworst experience\u201d from it, in a new cover story for\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Throughout the piece, Affleck colorfully sounds off on various topics, including his \u201cworld-class Boston finesse\u201d for parallel parking, his \u201cred velvet celebrity Wordle group,\u201d why he thinks of golf as the sports version of meth, and how he actually \u201chad a good time at the Grammys<\/a>,\u201d thank you very much.\u00a0<\/p>\n But he becomes particularly impassioned when speaking about taking on the role of Batman, saying that participating in DC Comics films \u201cbecame somewhat repetitive to me and less interesting\u201d to him across the five movies in which he appeared. \u201cAnd by the way, I like a lot of the stuff we did, especially the first one [Batman v Superman<\/em>],\u201d Affleck said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Perhaps not surprisingly, it was 2017\u2019s\u00a0infamously difficult\u00a0Justice League<\/em><\/a> that soured him on the experience. \u201cYou could teach a seminar on all the reasons why this is how not to do it. Ranging from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, and just ending with the most monstrous taste in my mouth,\u201d Affleck said of the production, which brought in\u00a0Joss Whedon<\/strong>\u00a0to direct after original director Zack Snyder\u2019s<\/strong> daughter died by suicide in 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Oscar winner, who has previously\u00a0shared his misgivings<\/a> about playing the Caped Crusader, subsequently bowed out of directing his own\u00a0Batman<\/em>\u00a0film. \u201c[Justice League<\/em>] made me go, \u2018I\u2019m out. I never want to do any of this again. I\u2019m not suited,\u2019\u201d Affleck said. \u201cThat was the worst experience I\u2019ve ever seen in a business which is full of some shitty experiences. It broke my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n The whole thing was so punishing, Affleck explained, that he \u201cstarted to drink too much,\u201d adding, \u201cI was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, \u2018This isn\u2019t the life I want. My kids aren\u2019t here. I\u2019m miserable.\u2019 You want to go to work and find something interesting to hang onto, rather than just wearing a rubber suit, and most of it you\u2019re just standing against the computer screen going, \u2018If this nuclear waste gets loose, we\u2019ll \u2026\u2019 That\u2019s fine. I don\u2019t condescend to that or put it down, but I got to a point where I found it creatively not satisfying.\u201d<\/p>\n Affleck did, however, suit up once more to play the character in\u00a0The Flash<\/em>, which\u00a0stars\u00a0Ezra Miller<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0hits theaters in June<\/a>. \u201cI finally did figure out how to play that character [Batman], and I nailed it in\u00a0The Flash<\/em>,\u201d Affleck said. \u201cFor the five minutes I\u2019m there, it\u2019s really great.\u201d But don\u2019t bet on him to save the day on any future projects. \u201cI would not direct something for the\u00a0[James] Gunn<\/strong> DC<\/a>. Absolutely not,\u201d the actor said when asked by\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cI have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he\u2019s going to do a great job. I just wouldn\u2019t want to go in and direct in the way they\u2019re doing that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
