Sobriety<\/a> has been a decades-long struggle for AJ McLean<\/strong><\/a>. In an exclusive interview, the Backstreet Boy<\/a>, 46, opened up to Life & Style<\/em> about how daughters Elliot, 11, and Lyric, 7, inspired him to seek help after relapsing two years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight before I got sober, I flew home from doing something in Miami. [I had] partied my ass off the night before, and I still smelled like alcohol,\u201d he exclusively told Life & Style<\/em>. \u201cWhen I went to hug my youngest daughter, she backed away from me. She\u2019s like, \u2018You don\u2019t smell like my daddy.\u2019 That crushed me. That killed me.\u201d It was then that \u201cthe biggest light bulb\u201d went off for AJ. \u201cYou know, I could go hard one last time, and it really would probably be the last time, and leave my kids fatherless?\u201d he said. \u201cAbsolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n
