After Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump\u2019s indie music detour to launch a heavily autotuned track called \u201cAnything is Possible<\/a>,\u201d the Democrats have responded<\/a> with \u201cParty\u2019s Fallin\u2019 Down.\u201d Published three days too early to be passed off as an awkward April Fools\u2019 Day joke, it\u2019s described as \u201ca new AI-generated song about Lara Trump\u2019s rocky start as RNC co-chair.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

You can listen to it here<\/a>. My recommendation, however, is that you don\u2019t in favor of doing anything else with your time, regardless of your political affiliation, musical taste, or thoughts on AI.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In a statement, Harrison calls Trump\u2019s music career \u201cembarrassing, unserious, and a waste of money,\u201d touting how the Democratic National Committee \u201cdidn\u2019t put as much time and money into making our song.\u201d Nevertheless, putting less time and money into making something embarrassing and unserious is still… making something embarrassing and unserious? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And besides, this injection of generative AI into election season feels like opening a door that will be hard to close. The next time we consider the question of whether or not it\u2019s appropriate to use generative AI in the political context, it probably won\u2019t be over a bad musical spoof with goofy lyrics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
