Anne Hathaway<\/strong><\/a> has revealed she suffered a pregnancy loss in 2015, one year before giving birth to her first child<\/a>, and it happened while she was playing a pregnant character.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first time it didn\u2019t work out for me. I was doing a play and I had to give birth on stage every night,\u201d Anne, 41, told Vanity Fair<\/em> in a cover story published on Monday, March 25.<\/p>\n At the time, she was starring in the one-woman Off-Broadway play Grounded<\/em>, where she played an F16 fighter pilot whose career was derailed by a pregnancy.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was too much to keep it in when I was \u200bon stage pretending everything was fine,\u201d Anne said of the heartbreak she went though.<\/p>\n \u201cI had to keep it real otherwise. So, when it did go well for me, having been on the other side of it \u2014 where you have to have the grace to be happy for someone \u2014 I wanted to let my sisters know, \u2018You don\u2019t have to always be graceful. I see you and I\u2019m with you,’\u201d the Oscar winner explained about her message to others who have suffered a pregnancy loss.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to want something so much and to wonder if you\u2019re doing something wrong,\u201d Anne added.<\/p>\n The Devil Wears Prada<\/em><\/a> star welcomed her first child with husband Adam Shulman<\/strong>, Jonathan \u201cJohnny\u201d Rosebanks Shulman, on March 24, 2016. Anne gave birth to their second child, son Jack, in late 2019.<\/p>\n The New York native was asked about the message she had for other couples experiencing fertility issues<\/a> when announcing she was expecting baby No. 2 in July 2019.<\/p>\n In a black and white Instagram photo<\/a> showing off her large baby bump, Anne wrote, \u201cIt\u2019s not for a movie\u2026\u2063\u2063#2.\u201d She then added, \u2063\u201d\u2063All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cGiven the pain I felt while trying to get pregnant, it would\u2019ve felt disingenuous to post something all the way happy when I know the story is much more nuanced than that for everyone,\u201d Anne told Vanity Fair<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Idea of You<\/em> star previously touched on why she decided to be open about her struggle with getting pregnant in August 2019, one month after her announcement.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I said to them: \u2018This has happened to me, it broke my heart, it broke me,\u2019 so many of them said: \u2018It happened to me, too,\u2019 and that was the thing that allowed me to come through it, to feel my pain without having anyone rush in to define it or cure it,\u201d Anne told The Daily Mail<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI sometimes think Instagram makes life look really breezy, but that\u2019s not the whole story,\u201d she continued. \u201cBy leaving out the sad part, we make women who are struggling with this feel isolated and lonely.
