David Spade<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Fly on the Wall\u2019 podcast about how she was so \u201cterrified\u201d during the experience the show\u2019s boss Lorne Michaels ended up coming to her defence as protestors tried to storm the Studio H8 stage.<\/p>\nSharon added: \u201cFor most of the show, I was completely blacked out with terror.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added it was thanks to Lorne, 79, a mob of people protesting what they perceived as the homophobia and misogyny in Paul Verhoeven\u2019s \u2018Basic Instinct\u2019 didn\u2019t get to attack her.<\/p>\n
\nSharon said: \u201cHe personally saved my life. A bunch of people started storming the stage, saying they were going to kill me during the opening monologue.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe police that are always in there during all of that, and the security that is always in there froze \u2019cause they\u2019d never seen anything like that happen. They froze.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cLorne started screaming, \u2018What are you guys doing, watching the show?\u2019 And Lorne started, himself, beating up and pulling these people back from the stage.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAll these people are getting beat up and handcuffed right in front of me, and we went live. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was doing this live monologue while they were handcuffing and beating up people at my feet.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDana, 68, and David, 59, also said sorry to Sharon for mounting a sketch on \u2018SNL\u2019 that saw the actress play a woman at the airport who was asked by men at a security check point to take her clothes off in an attempt to take advantage of her.<\/p>\n
\n\u2018Wayne\u2019s World\u2019 actor Dana said: \u201cI want to apologise publicly for the security check sketch where I played an Indian man and we\u2019re convincing Sharon, her character, or whatever, to take her clothes off to go through the security thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDavid said the skit was \u201cso offensive\u201d, while Dana added: \u201cIt\u2019s so 1992, you know, it\u2019s from another era.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSharon joked: \u201cI think that we were all committing misdemeanours (in the \u201990s) because we didn\u2019t think there was something wrong then.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe didn\u2019t have this sense. I had much bigger problems than that, you know what I mean? That was funny to me, I didn\u2019t care. I was fine being the butt of the joke.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBut she added about today\u2019s woke culture: \u201cI feel like now we\u2019re in such a weird and precious time because people have spent too much time alone. \u201cPeople don\u2019t know how to be funny and intimate and any of these things with each other. And everybody is so afraid that they\u2019re putting up such barriers around everything that people can\u2019t be normal with each other anymore. It\u2019s lost all sense of reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
