The 52-year-old singer \u2013 who had twin sons Matteo and Valentino in 2008 via gestational surrogacy, as well as daughter Lucia, five, and son Renn, four, during his relationship with ex-husband Jwan Yosef \u2013 admitted he may not have come out in 2010 if it had not been for his former psychologist father Enrique Morales\u2019 advice.<\/p>\n
He told SiriusXM\u2019s \u2018Andy Cohen Live\u2019 about how his professional team had warned him to hide his sexuality by telling him if he came out it \u201cis gonna be the end of your career\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ricky added they said: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to tell the world. Your friends know, your family know. Why do you need to stand in front of the camera and talk about it?\u201d<\/p>\n
The singer said even though his team \u201cdidn\u2019t understand the importance\u201d of him coming out, his dad urged him to be honest.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201c(My dad) said, \u2018What are you gonna (do), teach your kids to lie? \u201cYou gotta be open. You gotta go out… I want to help you. How can we do this?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018All right, dad, I\u2019m working on it. Gimme a second. I don\u2019t know how. I don\u2019t know if it’s through an interview. I don\u2019t know if I want to write a letter and tweet it. I don\u2019t know. Gimme a break. It\u2019ll come.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRicky had come out to his ex-accountant mum Do\u00f1a Nereida Morales when he was 18, but admitted she needed time for the news to sink in.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cShe was concerned because she was, \u2018Oh my God, I just don\u2019t want you to hurt and people out there are really cruel,\u2019 and so it took her a minute to accept it.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut obviously when I did it, I made sure she was on an airplane on her way to see me. So, she was on her airplane, and I did what I did.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI wrote a letter (on his website), and I tweeted it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI wish I could come out 20 times. It felt amazing. Of course, I started crying like a baby.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou know, I pressed send and I was like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s it?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cMy assistant who\u2019s still my assistant, Paco, he was next to me and I\u2019m like, \u2018I think I need a hug.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
