Below Deck<\/em><\/a>\u2018s Ben Willoughby<\/strong> had his work cut out for him when taking over for Jared Woodin<\/strong> \u2014 and he still has questions about the deck crew\u2019s first departure with him as bosun.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the longest charter we had all season \u2014 four days long. We\u2019re already a man down [with Jared], but it\u2019s nothing that I think we can\u2019t handle. It\u2019s unheard of [though when we] first [are] coming off the dock,\u201d Ben exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cYou\u2019ve got two deck members [on the boat] while Sunny [Marquis]<\/strong> is on the tender. You wouldn\u2019t do that. I don\u2019t even know if it\u2019s legal, to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reality star pointed out that it wasn\u2019t easy to have stew Cat Baugh<\/strong> leave<\/a> shortly after Jared.<\/p>\n

\u201cInterior was going to support us with whatever we needed, [such as] cleaning up the crew mess and all that kind of stuff. [They could] take some duties back from the deck team because we\u2019re a man down,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut now they\u2019ve got to take [more] duties in their own department.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBelow Deck and its spinoff series may be reality TV shows, but there can be real-life consequences for the crew\u2019s actions both on and off the ship. Over the years, stars including Hannah Ferrier, Peter Hunziker and Shane Coopersmith have been fired from their respective charters for a variety of reasons. Below Deck Mediterranean\u2019s Hannah [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ben continued: \u201cIt\u2019s just not an equal playing field again because we\u2019ve got two crew members down [during] the biggest charter we\u2019ve had. I mean, what can go wrong? Emotions are running high. It\u2019s definitely an experience, to say the least, and I wouldn\u2019t want to do that again.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Monday, March 18, episode of Below Deck<\/em>, Captain Kerry Titheradge<\/strong> let Jared go<\/a> and subsequently promoted Ben. The crew was in for another shake-up when Cat asked to leave to deal with issues back home. Despite being two people down, Ben effortlessly slipped into the bosun role even though he wasn\u2019t offered the job right off the bat.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cInitially, I think [I was] very much [surprised to not be bosun] because between the two seasons, I\u2019d actually worked as a bosun on other vessels, which was great. I had very much just moved into that role very easily,\u201d he noted. \u201cSo, when I was asked to come back and I was actually taking a step down back to the lead deckhand, I was like, \u2018Damn, I\u2019ve got to bite my tongue a bit here and see what kind of circus this person\u2019s running.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRough seas! Viewers have had a front row seat to some of the biggest reality TV feuds since the Below Deck franchise debuted in 2013. The show\u2019s spinoff series Below Deck Mediterranean shocked viewers when Hannah Ferrier and Captain Sandy Yawn\u2018s inability to see eye to eye turned into the most memorable firing to date. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ben found it \u201cvery hard\u201d in the beginning, adding, \u201cYou could see that evidently in the first few episodes. It\u2019s hard for me to just step back in a role knowing that we\u2019re destined to fail with Jared being at the helm. [It was] very frustrating. I don\u2019t think Sunny or Kyle [Stillie] could see my frustration, but I was ready to walk off at one point. I was like, \u2018If we\u2019re going to keep going with this, I\u2019m going to walk off this boat.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The tension between Ben and Jared was evident as season 11 played out.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was more of a competition between us two. I think that\u2019s how Jared kind of took it because he could have used me to his advantage. I know the boat, I know how it works very successfully,\u201d Ben explained. \u201cBut I think he was just trying to use what we call two-stripe authority to influence that on me. I did as much as I could to bite my tongue, but I was very much ready to walk off that boat because I knew we were destined to fail. And evidently here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n
