Don Lemon has published<\/a> the \u201ctense\u201d interview with Elon Musk that got his show canceled on X<\/a>. During the interview, Lemon touches on various topics related to hate speech on X and Musk\u2019s own views on right-wing conspiracy theories, with the billionaire becoming noticeably irritated by the interview\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Things start to take a turn about halfway into the interview. Lemon asks Musk about his comments on illegal immigration<\/a> and the far-right great replacement theory<\/a>, then turns to the topic of content moderation. Lemon asks<\/a> whether better content moderation on X would let Musk avoid some of the criticism of his posts about the great replacement theory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI don\u2019t have to answer questions from reporters,\u201d Musk responds. \u201cDon, the only reason I\u2019m doing this interview is because you\u2019re on the X platform, and you asked for it. Otherwise, we\u2019re not going to be doing this interview.\u201d Musk adds that he doesn\u2019t \u201cthink people should care what the media thinks about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lemon and Musk go on to argue<\/a> about the presence of hate speech on X. Lemon points out a study<\/a> that found anti-Semitic posts on X grew from June 2022 to February 2023. Musk responds by saying that study only \u201ccount the number of posts but not count the number of views.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lemon then suggests X should take these posts down because \u201cthey\u2019re hateful\u201d and \u201ccan lead to violence.\u201d Musk responds that Lemon \u201cloves censorship\u201d and that X will only remove content that\u2019s illegal. \u201cYou can sign up right now and do 100 things that are hateful, but if nobody reads it, it doesn\u2019t matter,\u201d Musk concludes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The interview also goes over Musk\u2019s disagreement with companies\u2019 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, as well as his views on racism. Musk says<\/a> the country should \u201cmove on\u201d from a history of racism and that \u201cwe are all descended from slaves.\u201d (\u201cWell not everyone was a slave,\u201d Lemon responds.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lemon later says<\/a> he has personally experienced discrimination and that it\u2019s \u201cinsulting\u201d for \u201csomeone to say that that hasn\u2019t happened and I should just move forward and ignore the past.\u201d Musk replies by saying Lemon keeps \u201cputting words\u201d in his mouth and that \u201cwe should treat people like individuals and base our opinions on them on their character.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Things get more heated at the very end of the interview when Lemon mentions Musk\u2019s<\/a> statement that advertisers could<\/a> \u201ckill\u201d X with an ad boycott. Lemon asks whether Musk should take responsibility if X fails. \u201cDoesn\u2019t the buck stop with you?\u201d Lemon asks. Musk replies by telling Lemon to \u201cchoose your question carefully, there\u2019s five minutes left.\u201d As Lemon attempts to dive deeper into Musk\u2019s upbringing, Musk says there are only a \u201ccouple minutes\u201d left and that he has a \u201cwhole roomful of people waiting to meet with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n There are other parts of the interview worth watching as well, including Musk talking about meeting with Donald Trump and Musk\u2019s prescription ketamine usage. Musk says he uses ketamine<\/a>, which is a dissociative anesthetic, once in a while when he gets into a \u201cnegative sort of chemical mindset.\u201d He also says<\/a> he met with Trump but denied rumors that the former president asked for a donation<\/a> for his political campaign.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lemon, a former host on CNN, was supposed to debut new episodes of his show on X as part of a deal he struck<\/a> with the platform earlier this year. However, Lemon said Musk decided<\/a> to cancel the deal after their interview, which Musk later confirmed<\/a>, saying Lemon\u2019s show is too similar to CNN. Lemon\u2019s show will still be posted on X, but it just won\u2019t appear there first.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
