Oh, how The Foundling has fallen. In the third episode of The Regime,<\/em> \u201cThe Heroes\u2019 Banquet,\u201d Matthias Schoenaerts<\/strong>\u2019s Corporal Zubak is banished from the palace after an intense and violent confrontation with Kate Winslet<\/strong>\u2019s Chancellor Elena. On a new episode of Still Watching,<\/em> hosts Hillary Busis, Richard Lawson,<\/strong> and Chris Murphy<\/strong> dissect Elena\u2019s sudden change of heart, and how it may shape Zubak\u2019s future. Plus,\u00a0Guillaume Gallienne<\/strong> drops by the podcast to discuss playing first gentleman Nicky.\u00a0<\/p>\n Zubak starts the episode riding high as Elena\u2019s right-hand man, convincing her to eat dirt and employ sweeping land reform in the state we\u2019re still calling Genovia. However, Zubak turns on Elena after she reveals that she and her cabinet have been \u201cskimming off the top\u201d of the country, stealing billions from her citizens and storing the money in an offshore bank account called the Belize Fund. But Elena has bigger things to worry about then Zubak, as an impulsive decision to annex the Faban Corridor may have landed her in international hot water, without any allies.<\/p>\n Although Zubak has seemingly driven a wedge between Elena and her husband, Nicky, Regime<\/em> star Guillaume Gallienne still believes in their relationship. \u00a0\u201cI\u2019m sure that there is love,\u201d says Gallienne regarding Nicky\u2019s relationship with Elena. \u201cThere must have been passion at first, because he left everything, his wife, his kid. He left everything.\u201d And despite being cast out of his marital bed, Gallienne believes Nicky still has a certain sway over Elena that no one else has\u2014not even Zubak. \u201cHe\u2019s got one advantage that the others don\u2019t have\u2014he\u2019s not scared of her,\u201d he says. \u201cThat is a very important thing. He can actually speak the truth to her.\u201d<\/p>\n While Nicky may be able speak truth to the chancellor, the power dynamics of their relationship are set in stone. \u201cHe\u2019s a bit of a masochist,\u201d Gallienne says. \u201cI think he quite likes to be dominated by her. He likes to be her rug.\u201d Gallienne\u2019s offscreen relationship with Winslet was much less fraught. \u201cThe first scene we had was in the car, and we laughed so much,\u201d Gallienne says. \u201cWe were laughing so much in this car, that Stephen [Frears]<\/strong> came to us and went, \u2018Calm down, kids.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n They apparently had such a great time that Winslet invited Gallienne to stay with her during the shoot. \u201cShe very quickly said, \u2018I\u2019m living in this house during the shooting. Don\u2019t go to the hotel, come to the house,\u201d Gallienne recalls. \u201cAnd so we lived together for quite a long time during the shooting.\u2026 We got along very, very well. She\u2019s so honest and very clever, and she\u2019s very courageous.\u201d<\/p>\n Will Nicky and Elena make it to the end of The Regime<\/em> still happily wed? Is this the last we\u2019ll seen of Corporal Zubak? Has Elena unwittingly kicked off a civil war in Genovia by annexing the Faban Corridor? We\u2019re halfway through The Regime,<\/em> and it\u2019s still anyone\u2019s guess as to who will end up in charge by the series\u2019 end.
