Country royalty Reba McEntire<\/strong> is speaking out against claims that she took superstar Taylor Swift<\/strong> to task this weekend, after a popular social media account alleged that McEntire called Swift \u201can entitled little brat.\u201d<\/p>\n The trouble began, as it so frequently does, on Facebook. That\u2019s where an account called \u201cAmerica Loves Liberty\u201d published this post<\/a>: \u201cReba McIntire (sic) talks about how disappointed she was to look up at the big screen while performing The National Anthem, only to see Taylor Swift laughing and drinking and making a mockery of the event. \u2018I let her have it afterward. She\u2019s an entitled little brat.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n There isn\u2019t a link to any story that backs this up, and a look at the account\u2019s main page<\/a> suggests that the entire America Loves Liberty operation is intended to spread misinformation. \u201cNothing on this page is real\u201d reads its \u201cabout\u201d information, which credits a person named \u201cBusta Troll\u201d<\/strong> as responsible for the Facebook account.\u00a0<\/p>\n Its associated website<\/a> describes its publications as satire, writing that \u201cEverything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie, and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s unlikely that McEntire went as deep on the \u201cAmerica Loves Liberty\u201d as we just did (and she\u2019s certainly not alone<\/a> in failing to look into the account before reacting), which is probably why she responded to the post in an understandably earnest fashion. Via Facebook and Instagram, the actor and singer wrote,<\/a> \u201cPlease don\u2019t believe everything you see on the Internet. I did not say this. Taylor is a wonderful artist, strong role model and has done so much good for so many people and the music industry.\u201d<\/p>\n Following McEntire\u2019s response, the \u201cAmerica Loves Liberty\u201d account posted a follow-up<\/a>, writing \u201cOh my. Reba McEntire herself responded to our nonsense. Thank you, Ma\u2019am. We love your work. The article is as silly as the headline for a reason. It\u2019s not supposed to be believable. Your fans were staunchly on your side long before this post.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s nice when a disagreement such as this one ends with both sides reaching the same conclusion\u2014that one should vet one\u2019s sources before believing any online assertions. That\u2019s wisdom that also feels applicable to another person who (well and truly) went after Swift this weekend: disgraced former Republican Rep. George Santos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Santos, who is expected in federal court<\/a> for claims including identity theft, wire fraud, and money laundering, took time out of his possibly dwindling days of freedom to tweet about Swift<\/a>, writing \u201cI see @taylorswift13 endorsing \u00a0@JoeBiden for president.\u201d<\/p>\n The fabulist, who apparently follows Swift\u2019s work so closely he\u2019s capable of a statistical analysis of its topics, followed that prediction by writing, \u201cI mean, I see how this makes sense since 95% of her songs are about choosing the wrong guy. I guess we can all expect a Taylor Swift revenge song on Biden in 2025\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Santos did not explain the reasoning for his Swift endorsement prediction, nor did he note how many residents of New York\u2019s third congressional district have suggested that Santos was also the so-called \u201cwrong guy.\u201d But though Swift has encouraged voter registration, she has not offered an endorsement in the current presidential election. Candidates including Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> have speculated that Swift will endorse President Joe Biden<\/strong>, with some conspiracy theorists falsely assuming<\/a> that the singer is part of \u201ca covert government effort\u201d to ensure Biden\u2019s success.\u00a0<\/p>\n A representative for Swift has not responded to Vanity Fair\u2019s request for comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
