SpaceX says that a 110-minute launch window will open at 7AM CT \/ 8AM ET \/ 5AM PT tomorrow, March 14th. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">If you\u2019re planning on watching to see what happens, we recommend getting up early before the launch just in case it\u2019s either canceled or, as we\u2019ve seen on previous attempts, occurs at the very beginning of the launch window.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAANews\/status\/1768019995240415544\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post on X<\/a> (which, like SpaceX, is owned by Elon Musk), the FAA said it has \u201cdetermined SpaceX met all safety, environmental, policy and financial responsibility requirements.\u201d While both of the first two Starship launches took off and achieved some mission goals, both also ended explosively. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The first one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/4\/26\/23699365\/spacex-starship-damage-launch-pad-debris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">caused significant damage<\/a> not only to the launchpad but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/8\/23864393\/spacex-starship-orbital-flight-test-faa-hold#:~:text=left%20a%20385%2Dacre%20debris%20field%20that%20flung%20concrete%20chunks%20as%20far%20as%202%2C680%20feet%20from%20the%20launchpad%20and%20sparked%20a%203.5%2Dacre%20fire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also<\/a> \u201cleft a 385-acre debris field that flung concrete chunks as far as 2,680 feet from the launchpad and sparked a 3.5-acre fire.\u201d The FAA provided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/8\/23864393\/spacex-starship-orbital-flight-test-faa-hold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a list of 63 corrective actions<\/a> for SpaceX to take to address issues such as leaking propellant before the second attempt last spring.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">For this third launch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/mission\/?missionId=starship-flight-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SpaceX says<\/a> it\u2019s targeting a splashdown in the Indian Ocean instead of aiming for a spot closer to Hawaii as it did with the previous attempts, to try things like in-space engine burns \u201cwhile maximizing public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"duet--article--blockquote jzbdts2\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup jzbdtsa jzbdts0\">The third flight test aims to build on what we\u2019ve learned from previous flights while attempting a number of ambitious objectives, including the successful ascent burn of both stages, opening and closing Starship\u2019s payload door, a propellant transfer demonstration during the upper stage\u2019s coast phase, the first ever re-light of a Raptor engine while in space, and a controlled reentry of Starship. It will also fly a new trajectory, with Starship targeted to splashdown in the Indian Ocean.
