The \u2018Smile\u2019 singer, 38, has daughters Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, 46, to whom she was married from 2011 to 2018, and has now opened up about how \u2013 even though she loves the girls \u2013 she believes they ruined her pop stardom.<\/p>\n
She laughed as she told the \u2018Radio Times Podcast\u2019: \u201cMy children ruined my career.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, I love them, and they complete me, but in terms of, like, you know, pop stardom, totally ruined it.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also said she hated people using the phrase that mums can \u201chave it all\u201d when it comes to juggling a career with family.<\/p>\n
\nLily added: \u201cIt really annoys me when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can\u2019t.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSome people choose their career over their children, and that\u2019s their prerogative.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut, you know, my parents were quite absent when I was a kid, and I feel like that really left some, like, nasty scars that I\u2019m not willing to, you know, repeat on mine.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd so I chose stepping back and concentrating on them, and I\u2019m glad that I have done that because I think they\u2019re pretty well-rounded people.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nLily \u2013 who married \u2018Stranger Things\u2019 actor David Harbour, 48, in 2020 \u2013 rose to music stardom aged 21 when she released her hit single \u2018Smile\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nShe went on to put out the two multi-platinum-selling albums, 2006\u2019s \u2018Alright, Still\u2019 and \u2018It\u2019s Not Me, It\u2019s You\u2019 three years later \u2013 before she first became a mother in 2011.<\/p>\n
\nLily, who has had a famously turbulent relationship with her 70-year-old \u2018Trainspotting\u2019 actor dad Keith Allen \u2013 had her second child in 2013.<\/p>\n
\nDespite her admission motherhood wrecked her music career, Lily went on to release two more records \u2013 \u2018Sheezus\u2019 in 2014 and \u2018No Shame\u2019 four years later.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, neither album was a commercial success.<\/p>\n
\nLily said in 2019 she was working on her fifth album, but has instead shifted her focus to acting.<\/p>\n
\nShe has starred in two West End plays \u2013 2021\u2019s hit \u20182:22 A Ghost Story\u2019 and last year\u2019s \u2018The Pillowman\u2019, as well as taking roles in the 2019 film \u2018How to Build a Girl\u2019 and 2023\u2019s \u2018Dreamland\u2019 TV show.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
