Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u2019 about the backlash \u2013 after Stephen, 59, brought out a picture of the cover as he revealed the series\u2019 broadcaster CBS had requested it not be shown: \u201cWell, okay, let\u2019s keep this light. You know, I think it\u2019s a little um\u2026 well, it\u2019s a little ironic because I feel like I\u2019ve seen, like, a lot of male pubic hair on the cover of things.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve seen, like, a lot of hands in pants and like, unbuttoned\u2026 I think there\u2019s a certain overt acknowledgement of a female sexuality that has its own volition in a way that is annoying for people who are sexist and homophobic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stephen had told her before her remarks: \u201cNow before I show this cover, I just want you to know and the audience to know that I think it\u2019s a perfectly lovely cover.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe were asked by CBS not to show it. They thought that would not be a good idea for us to show this and I understand why.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBut Stephen then revealed the cover to a cheering audience \u2013 with Kristen giving a thumbs up.<\/p>\n
\nHe added to the actress: \u201cI want to say that you look better in a jockstrap than I ever did.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve certainly seen more revealing covers on Rolling Stone or Sports Illustrated for that matter.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKristen agreed: \u201cIt\u2019s not remotely explicit, yeah,\u201d with Stephen adding: \u201cNo, I think it also violates public expectations of female sexuality as opposed to how you\u2019re presenting it here.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nThe actress went on: \u201cYes, because female sexuality isn\u2019t supposed to actually want anything but to be had.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd that feels like it\u2019s protruding in a way that might be annoying.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKristen said in her Rolling Stone interview about wanting to do a provocative shoot for the title: \u201cIf I got through the entire \u2018Twilight\u2019 series without ever doing a Rolling Stone cover, it\u2019s because the boys were the sex symbols.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIf I could grow a little moustache, if I could grow a happy trail and unbutton my pants, I would.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cGuys \u2013 I\u2019m sorry \u2013 but their pubes are shoved in my face constantly, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Ummmm, bring it in.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKristen, who is engaged to her screenwriter fianc\u00e9e Dylan Meyer, also said she wanted everything about her cover shoot to be the \u201cgayest thing you\u2019ve ever seen in your life\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
