Then there are other nominees, like screenplay winners <strong>Justine Triet<\/strong> and <strong>Cord Jefferson,<\/strong> who seem ready to take their time.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it will be a short wait or a long one, here\u2019s your guide on where to look next for most of this year\u2019s major Oscar nominees and winners.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><strong>BEST ACTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Cillian Murphy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The best-actor winner and <em>Oppenheimer<\/em> star has already debuted his next role. He stars in the Irish drama <em>Small Things Like These,<\/em> which also stars <strong>Michelle Fairley<\/strong> and <strong>Emily Watson<\/strong> and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Giamatti<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">You can hear the <em>Holdovers<\/em> star regularly on his <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.treefort.fm\/series\/chinwag\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.treefort.fm\/series\/chinwag&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.treefort.fm\/series\/chinwag\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Chinwag<\/em><\/a> podcast, which he hosts with <strong>Stephen Asma.<\/strong> Giamatti is also <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/ming-na-wen-new-karate-kid-film-sony-1235931666\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> in the upcoming film <em>Peachville<\/em> opposite <strong>Simon Pegg<\/strong> and <strong>Ming-Na Wen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeffrey Wright<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The <em>American Fiction<\/em> nominee will reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon in <strong>Matt Reeves<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming sequel to <em>The Batman,<\/em> which <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/the-batman-2-release-date-october-2025-1235506926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as of a year ago<\/a> was set for an October 2025 release date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colman Domingo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Of all the best-actor nominees, we\u2019ll likely see <em>Rustin<\/em>\u2019s Domingo again the soonest. His film <em>Sing Sing,<\/em> which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2023\/09\/sing-sing-colman-domingo-toronto-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raves<\/a>, is set for a July release from A24. You can even watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=j3dXc6P3zH8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stirring trailer<\/a> now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bradley Cooper<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Cooper\u2019s next role debuted immediately after the Oscars\u2014he played himself on the post-Oscar episode of <em>Abbott Elementary.<\/em> But as with his nominated film <em>Maestro,<\/em> he\u2019ll be back behind the camera soon enough, directing and starring opposite <strong>Will Arnett<\/strong> in <em>Is This Thing On?.<\/em> The project <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/06\/bradley-cooper-will-arnett-searchlight-pic-is-this-thing-on-1235417425\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was announced<\/a> this past June shortly after the writers strike began.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><strong>BEST ACTRESS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Emma Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The best-actress winner and her <em>Poor Things<\/em> director <strong>Yorgos Lanthimos<\/strong> are on a roll, having already completed the anthology film <em>Kinds of Kindness<\/em> as well as a short film, <em>Bleat.<\/em> As of February she was also <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/global\/emma-stone-yorgos-lanthimos-save-the-green-planet-remake-1235917049\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in talks<\/a> for a role in his upcoming remake of <em>Save the Green Planet!,<\/em> and then there\u2019s always the <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Variety\/status\/1743103788049707510\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/twitter.com\/Variety\/status\/1743103788049707510&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Variety\/status\/1743103788049707510\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">persistent talk<\/a> of a <em>Cruella 2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lily Gladstone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Gladstone may have lost the Oscar for best actress in the year\u2019s tightest race, but the <em>Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> breakout certainly caught Hollywood\u2019s eye for her wrenching performance in <strong>Martin Scorsese<\/strong>\u2019s epic. She\u2019ll lead the buzzy film <em>The Memory Police,<\/em> adapted from the acclaimed <strong>Yoko Ogowa<\/strong> novel by Oscar winner <strong>Charlie Kaufman<\/strong> (<em>Adaptation<\/em>) and helmed by Emmy winner <strong>Reed Morano<\/strong> (<em>The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em>). (Scorsese is also involved as an executive producer.) And while that\u2019s a ways away, Gladstone will actually be back on our screens next month, as a lead in Hulu\u2019s Emmy-contending limited series <em>Under the Bridge,<\/em> costarring <strong>Riley Keough.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sandra H\u00fcller<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The first-time nominee for <em>Anatomy of a Fall<\/em> may soon find herself back on the festival circuit for <em>Rose,<\/em> a buzzy drama in which H\u00fcller plays a 17th-century woman who disguises herself as a man to go to war. \u201cIt was easier than living as a woman at that time,\u201d she told <strong>David Canfield<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/sandra-huller-anatomy-of-a-fall-zone-of-interest-little-gold-men-awards-insider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on <em>Vanity Fair<\/em>\u2019s <em>Little Gold Men<\/em><\/a> podcast recently, where she also teased some high-profile upcoming projects she can\u2019t yet reveal. Is that so-called Oscar bump real? \u201cIt is real,\u201d she said, \u201cand I\u2019m very happy about it.\u201d Stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carey Mulligan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Mulligan\u2019s <em>Maestro<\/em> follow-up is already out there\u2014she\u2019s in Netflix\u2019s <em>Spaceman<\/em> opposite <strong>Adam Sandler<\/strong>\u2014but she\u2019s also attached to the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/05\/carey-mulligan-tom-basden-tim-key-movie-one-for-money-steve-coogan-cannes-1235356003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK-set comedy <em>One for the Money<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> which was for sale at the Cannes market last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Annette Bening<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The five-time Oscar nominee and <em>Nyad<\/em> star has added another new accomplishment to her increasingly impressive r\u00e9sum\u00e9: executive producer. Bening stars in and executive-produced the limited series <em>Apples Never Fall,<\/em> which is based on <strong>Liane Moriarty<\/strong>\u2019s best-selling novel and premieres on Peacock March 14. The series also stars <strong>Sam Neill, Alison Brie,<\/strong> and <strong>Jake Lacy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><strong>BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Robert Downey Jr.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">For those who thought Downey had transformed himself to play <em>Oppenheimer<\/em>\u2019s Lewis Strauss, buckle up for <em>The Sympathizer,<\/em> which premieres on HBO April 14. In the limited series Downey dons a range of wigs and other prosthetics to play a series of characters who represent, more or less, Western imperialism. As <strong>Don McKellar,<\/strong> co-showrunner of the series with <strong>Park Chan-wook,<\/strong> put it in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/the-sympathizer-hbo-exclusive-preview-robert-downey-jr-awards-insider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our first look at the series<\/a>, Downey liberated everyone involved in the genre-busting show \u201cto go for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\\<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><strong>Ryan Gosling<\/strong>For anyone wondering how Gosling might top his crowd-pleasing and award-nominated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/awards-insider-ryan-gosling-ken-barbie-oscars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">performance as Ken<\/a>, the early buzz on his next film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2023\/11\/the-fall-guy-first-look-ryan-gosling-emily-blunt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Fall Guy<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> is very good. The film revolves around Gosling\u2019s stuntman Colt Seavers, who tries to quit the business after getting injured on the job, but is lured back to work when his former love Jody (<strong>Emily Blunt<\/strong>) needs his help. The film also stars <strong>Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke,<\/strong> and <strong>Hannah Waddingham<\/strong> and is directed by <strong>David Leitch<\/strong> (<em>Bullet Train<\/em>). <em>The Fall Guy<\/em> premieres at the SXSW Film Festival this week and hits theaters May 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Ruffalo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The <em>Poor Things<\/em> star\u2019s next big role was supposed to be right around the corner. But now that Warner Bros. has delayed the release of <strong>Bong Joon-ho<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Mickey 17<\/em> to 2025, we\u2019ll have to look toward the indie TV series <em>Hal &amp; Harper,<\/em> with <em>Cha Cha Real Smooth<\/em> wunderkind <strong>Cooper Raiff.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sterling K. Brown<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The <em>American Fiction<\/em> first-time nominee shot to fame in Hollywood through his powerful Emmy-winning performances on television series including <em>This Is Us<\/em> and <em>The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,<\/em> and he\u2019s got some more juicy small-screen work in the pipeline: He has reunited with <em>This Is Us<\/em> creator <strong>Dan Fogelman<\/strong> on <em>Paradise City,<\/em> a Hulu thriller in which Brown plays a former president\u2019s head of security, and he\u2019s a key cast member in the long-gestating adaptation of the decorated novel <em>Washington Black,<\/em> also with Hulu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert De Niro<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">His <em>Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> follow-up <em>Ezra,<\/em> which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, comes to theaters on May 31, from director <strong>Tony Goldwyn.<\/strong> He also stars in the upcoming <strong>Barry Levinson<\/strong> film <em>Alto Knights,<\/em> in which he plays a dual role as mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. Warner Bros. has it set for a November release later this year.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><strong>BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Da\u2019Vine Joy Randolph<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The best-supporting-actress winner and <em>Holdovers<\/em> star has a role in the upcoming <strong>Rebel Wilson<\/strong> comedy <em>Bride Hard,<\/em> and she\u2019ll also star opposite <strong>Kerry Washington<\/strong> and <strong>Omar Sy<\/strong> in the action thriller <em>Shadow Force.<\/em> She has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/davine-joy-randolph-tease-only-murders-in-the-building-1851100633\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strongly hinted<\/a> that they\u2019ll find a way to include her in the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/only-murders-in-the-building-season-4-everything-we-know-so-far\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fourth season of <em>Only Murders in the Building.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Blunt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Blunt will be back on the big screen very soon in another highly anticipated film, <em>The Fall Guy,<\/em> playing opposite <strong>Ryan Gosling<\/strong> (see above for more on that film). The friendly costars teamed up on the Oscars stage Sunday to honor the stunt community and delivered one of the most fun and memorable bits of the night, playing up their Barbenheimer rivalry. In addition to <em>Fall Guy,<\/em> Blunt lends her voice to husband <strong>John Krasinski<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming film \u201cIf,\u201d in which she plays a unicorn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jodie Foster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">With the Oscar campaign season now complete, we can expect Foster to become part of the Emmy campaign season for her acclaimed work in <em>True Detective: Night Country,<\/em> in which she starred and served as executive producer. Foster will also <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/anthony-hopkins-writing-biography-have-quite-a-memory-exclusive-8546394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appear in a documentary<\/a> about her <em>Silence of the Lambs<\/em> costar <strong>Anthony Hopkins,<\/strong> which the actor\u2019s wife, Stella, is currently filming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>America Ferrera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">It had been nearly a decade since <strong>America Ferrera<\/strong> had appeared in a movie when both <em>Dumb Money<\/em> and her Oscar-nominated <em>Barbie<\/em> hit theaters last year. Her next gap will be far shorter, as the Emmy winner is set to star opposite <strong>Matthew McConaughey<\/strong> in <strong>Paul Greengrass<\/strong>\u2019s next drama, <em>The Lost Bus.<\/em> She\u2019s also developing her feature directorial debut, <em>I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter<\/em>, which was just acquired by Amazon MGM Studios\u2019 Orion Pictures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle Brooks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Although the production start date has not yet been set, <em>The Color Purple<\/em> star will reprise her fan-loved role as Leota Adebayo on the second season of <em>Peacemaker<\/em> with <strong>John Cena.<\/strong> Her character is also expected to make an appearance in the DCEU spin-off series <em>Waller,<\/em> starring <strong>Viola Davis.<\/strong> Brooks will also appear in <em>Minecraft,<\/em> with <strong>Jason Momoa<\/strong>, <strong>Kate McKinnon<\/strong>, <strong>Jennifer Coolidge<\/strong> and <strong>Jack Black,<\/strong> which is currently in production in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><strong>AND THE FILMMAKERS TOO!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Christopher Nolan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Although you might argue that <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidehrlich\/status\/1767008729986171018\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidehrlich\/status\/1767008729986171018&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidehrlich\/status\/1767008729986171018\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he\u2019s already made<\/a> his ambitious and weird Oscar follow-up, just in reverse, Christopher Nolan\u2019s post-<em>Oppenheimer<\/em> project will continue to be the subject of intense speculation until he finally gets around to announcing it. Given that he\u2019s released films on a meticulous every-three-years schedule for the past decade, we may not be waiting too much longer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wes Anderson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">At long last an Oscar winner for his live action short film <em>The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar,<\/em> Anderson wasn\u2019t present to accept his award because he\u2019s already in Germany getting ready for his next movie, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/01\/new-wes-anderson-movie-bill-murray-michael-cera-benicio-del-toro-1235716914\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which is said<\/a> to star <strong>Bill Murray, Michael Cera,<\/strong> and <strong>Benicio del Toro.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Greta Gerwig<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Despite the $1.5 billion blank check <em>Barbie<\/em> granted her, Gerwig is first moving on to a project she took on long before turning the world pink: an adaptation of <em>The Chronicles of Narnia<\/em> for Netflix. Beyond that, though, she may have some thinking to do. \u201cI don\u2019t want to get too precious about making the \u2018right\u2019 decision.\u201d she told <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> last year. \u201cI want to give myself enough time to get lost so that I\u2019m not so demanding of output to let it be uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Glazer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Like Christopher Nolan, <em>Zone of Interest<\/em> director Jonathan Glazer releases his films at a steady cadence\u2014but they tend to come about a decade apart. He told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2024-01-11\/jonathan-glazer-interview-zone-of-interest-auschwitz-holocaust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a> that as a way to step away from the Holocaust horrors of <em>Zone,<\/em> his next film will be \u201cabout tenderness\u2014 how tender we can be as well.\u201d But as the <em>Times<\/em> adds, \u201cIt won\u2019t come for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cord Jefferson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">A newly minted Oscar winner for best-adapted screenplay, Jefferson was told by none other than <strong>Spike Lee<\/strong> to make his next film \u201cas quickly as possible.\u201d But with an overall deal at Warner Bros. television, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/news\/general-news\/spike-lee-told-cord-jefferson-make-another-movie-quickly-1234951534\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jefferson says<\/a> that even though he\u2019s working on a few scripts now, it may be a while before his name is on another film: \u201cLook, if I can sit down and finish one of these scripts in the next couple of months and it\u2019s to a place that I really, really love, then I\u2019m all for directing another movie quickly if Warner Bros. will allow me. But until it\u2019s really there, I don\u2019t want to try to rush something just to get something out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yorgos Lanthimos<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Lanthimos is staying in the Emma Stone business. Following his star\u2019s best actress win on Sunday, we\u2019ll get <em>Kinds of Kindness,<\/em> an anthology reuniting Stone with <em>Poor Things<\/em> scene-stealers <strong>Willem Dafoe<\/strong> and <strong>Margaret Qualley,<\/strong> as well as Oscar nominees <strong>Hong Chau<\/strong> and <strong>Jesse Plemons.<\/strong> Then Stone and Lanthimos are set to make <em>another<\/em> movie, a remake of the South Korean comedy <em>Save the Green Planet.<\/em> Expect more joint trips to the Oscars in their future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin Scorsese<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">At 81 years old and with no apparent desire to slow down, the <em>Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> director has teased plans to make an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/awards\/story\/2024-01-08\/martin-scorsese-killers-of-the-flower-moon-new-jesus-film\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80-minute movie about Jesus<\/a> but set in the present day. He\u2019s also been attached since 2022 to direct an adaptation of <em>The Wager,<\/em> the latest book from <em>Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> author <strong>David Grann.<\/strong> While doing press for <em>Killers,<\/em> however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/interviews\/martin-scorsese-talks-killers-of-the-flower-moon-explained-1234918654\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he suggested that last one might be a ways off.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Celine Song<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Song is already hard at work on her next feature film, <em>Materialists,<\/em> which she <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/global\/sony-pictures-celine-songs-materialists-efm-1235915404\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will write and direct<\/a> for Sony.
