The Holdovers has five Oscar nominations… and one accusation of plagiarism.<\/p>\n

On the eve of the 2024 Academy Awards, Variety<\/em> reports<\/a> that a screenwriter, Simon Stephenson<\/a> (Luca, Wonka, Paddington 2<\/em>), has leveled accusations that the screenplay for Alexander Payne\u2019s movie The Holdovers is<\/em> \u201cplagiarised line-by-line\u201d from Stephenson\u2019s unproduced screenplay Frisco<\/em>.<\/p>\n

At the heart of Stephenson\u2019s complaint is the contention that Payne had the \u201cFrisco\u201d script in both 2013 and again in late 2019, right before Payne approached Hemingson about collaborating on a project. That contention seems to be backed up by emails involving several Hollywood agencies and producers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition to a nomination for the Best Picture prize, The Holdovers<\/em> has also been nominated for best original screenplay.<\/p>\n
