By virtually all accounts, Joe Biden<\/strong>\u2019s State of the Union address<\/a> was a hit: A majority of viewers had a positive reaction<\/a> to the speech, and even conservatives admitted<\/a> that the man they claim is not up to the job of being president was full of energy on Thursday night. \u201cIn short, Biden had his game on,\u201d modern American history professor Christopher Phelps<\/strong> told<\/a>\u00a0Newsweek.<\/em> \u201cThis was an unequivocal success.\u201d Unfortunately for the GOP, success<\/em> is not a word people are using when discussing Katie Britt<\/strong>\u2019s response to Biden, which had a vibe that could be best characterized as \u201clow-budget horror movie,\u201d \u201cHandmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em>\u2013esque,\u201d or simply \u201ccreepy as f–k.\u201d\u00a0In fact, the whole thing was so weird and cringeworthy\u2014from the Alabama lawmaker\u2019s deeply unsettling whispering, to the words \u201csteeped in the blood of patriots,\u201d to the sense that before the director yelled \u201ccut,\u201d Britt was going to go threaten a specific teacher for letting her kid read a book about kindness\u2014that even Republicans are panning her response. And they\u2019re not holding back!<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone\u2019s fucking losing it,\u201d one GOP strategist told<\/a> the Daily Beast of the response to Britt\u2019s kitchen table rebuttal, which will no doubt be parodied on Saturday Night Live<\/em> this weekend. \u201cIt\u2019s one of our biggest disasters ever.\u201d Said a source close to Donald Trump:<\/strong> \u201cHer performance was the stuff of nightmares.\u201d Speaking to a Business Insider reporter, a Republican Hill staffer opined<\/a>: \u201cShe really thinks she\u2019s killing it. But it\u2019s comical. Like SNL quality.\u201d On X, conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey<\/strong> wrote<\/a>: \u201c\u2026the delivery was parody-level terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Seemingly attempting to defend the decision to put Britt in a kitchen\u2014again, it cannot be overstated just how much it felt like she was one second away from pulling out a meat cleaver and saying something like, \u201cUs moms will do anything to protect our families from Joe Biden\u2019s policies\u201d\u2014Senator Tommy Tuberville<\/strong> reportedly said<\/a>: \u201cShe was picked as a housewife, not just a senator\u2014somebody who sees it from a different perspective\u2026. I mean, she did what she was asked to do. I thought she did a good job. And it\u2019s hard when you\u2019ve never done anything like that.\u201d Not exactly a rousing endorsement!<\/p>\n Jokes about Britt\u2019s performance aside, it\u2019s ironic that the lawmaker attempted to paint Biden\u2019s America as a terrifying place when Republicans like her have a much, much scarier vision for the country.
