The \u2018Overboard\u2019 actress, 78, hailed her musician father Edward Rutledge Hawn as a huge \u201cadvocate\u201d of her work before his death in 1982 aged 73.<\/p>\n
She told the \u2018Armchair Expert\u2019 podcast she had always been a \u201cdaddy\u2019s girl\u201d growing up, adding: \u201cHe\u2019s always my daddy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Goldie went on about her father-daughter bond: \u201cThat\u2019s the first love we have in our life. I was madly, when I was little, in love with my father.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, the other side of it is is that Daddy and I were best friends.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe was a musician. The last thing he said to me before he died, he said, \u2018When are you going to direct, Goldie?\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe was an advocate.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nGoldie went on to direct the 1997 TV movie \u2018Hope\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nShe said about the job: \u201cI was around 35, 36, and he called me and said, \u2018I want you to remember this: What you have done in your 36 years is what most people get in a lifetime.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe said, \u2018I\u2019m so proud of you.\u2019 And that meant the world to me.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of awards you get, and they\u2019re wonderful, but these are memories. These are things that shape you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMum-of-three Goldie, who has been with her partner Kurt Russell, 72, since 1983, told Variety last year about the importance of family and how she teaches the next generations by example: \u201cYou\u2019ve got to work for a living, stay compassionate and stay realistic.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I\u2019m passing that on because that was what my father taught me: \u2018Stay in reality. Don\u2019t get taken away with everything.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe rest of it is up to them. Being there for them and knowing that they\u2019re going to have to work stuff out themselves, as hard as it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
