Make it a true daily disaster, Alex. Jeopardy!<\/em><\/a> contestants often practice for years before appearing on the quiz show, but they sometimes still find themselves in the middle of a wild moment.<\/p>\n Even Ken Jennings<\/strong>, who holds the longest winning streak ever<\/a> on Jeopardy!<\/em>, has flubbed an answer or two. During his original run in 2004, one of his most memorable mistakes happened when he was answering a question in the \u201cTool Time\u201d category.<\/p>\n \u201cThis term for a long-handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker,\u201d read late host Alex Trebek<\/a>. Jennings, who had a commanding lead at the time, rang in with the response, \u201cWhat\u2019s a hoe?\u201d As the audience began to laugh, Trebek quipped, \u201cWhoa, whoa, whoa! They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?\u201d (The Chase<\/em> cohost graduated from the state\u2019s Brigham Young University.)<\/p>\n The Planet Funny<\/em> author later found himself at the center of a Jeopardy!<\/em> controversy when some of his old tweets resurfaced just before he began his first stint as a guest host for the show following Trebek\u2019s November 2020 death<\/a>. \u201cNothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair,\u201d read one tweet Jennings posted in 2014.<\/p>\n The former software engineer apologized for the posts<\/a>, saying that they \u201cworked as jokes\u201d in his mind but didn\u2019t read so well on screen. \u201cSometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended,\u201d he tweeted in December 2020. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn\u2019t matter; I screwed up, and I\u2019m truly sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n Jeopardy!<\/em> proceeded with Jennings\u2019 gig as a guest host, but the Wall Street Journal<\/em> later reported that the tweets may have cost him a job as Trebek\u2019s permanent replacement. In August 2021, Sony Pictures announced that executive producer<\/a> Mike Richards<\/strong><\/a> would take over as the syndicated game show\u2019s permanent host, but Richards resigned days later<\/a> after multiple of his own controversies.<\/p>\n After Richards\u2019 departure, Mayim Bialik<\/strong><\/a>, who had been announced as the host for primetime and spin-off specials, began filling in as the show\u2019s interim host. The Big Bang Theory<\/em><\/a> alum has since alternated with Jennings, who is still a consulting producer on the show. In July 2022, Variety<\/em> reported that the dynamic duo will continue sharing hosting duties<\/a>.<\/p>\n
